The Trident Corps of Engineers are always in need of more materials to build ships and stations. Therefore they have recommissioned a very old, yet large, mining vessel from the time when jump drives weren't standard issue.

The Borer II-class Miner is a large mining vessel with a powerful refitted salvage array and plenty of storage for all of the ores that the Corps of Engineers are likely to extract. It is decently defended, with a 490,000 terawatt energy shielding system, four anti-missile turrets and two TRT TinyShip turrets.

It also has a powerful jump drive system located in the engine nacelles, which are a relic of a time long forgotten. Nacelles such as those are unnecessary on Trident warships due to jump drive miniaturisation in recent years and the fact that they are an easy target to disable a ship's warp capability, however they have made a resurgence in civilian ships built by Trident.

Storage Facility 24, located in the Pana system neighbouring the Vergesso system, was a somewhat colourful station inhabited by various old Trident and pre-Trident ships that sat and waited to be broken down into their constituent materials. Many of the ships were still fully functional, however due to their age Trident did not want the expense of operating a fleet of very old ships prone to breakdown.

The personnel who worked the largely automated station were perpetually bored. They grew tired of keeping an eye on the 'old relics' and busied themselves by taking apart and rebuilding the ships and 'accidentally' firing their weapons, often at other docked 'relics'.

Trouble found the crew of Storage Facility 24 when a single Scav Typhoon warped in in a daring cross-border raid.

The ship, packed with Scav boarding personnel, quickly made a beeline for the most intact of the ships, which happened to be an ex-Trident Origins-class Light Frigate, ex-TRV Avenger CV-0218.

The station crew, knowing the station itself had little in the way of defensive measures, spotted the incursion and quickly radioed the nearest starbase, which dispatched two of the new Barracuda-class fighters from the 81st Wing to intercept the boarding ship.

The fighters arrived too late however, as the Scavs had already powered up the Avenger and were already plotting a course out of the system. The Scav's Typhoon gave the Avenger covering fire as the Barracudas raced towards the Avenger, intent on stopping the larger vessel from leaving the station.

The fighters' efforts were in vain however, as the Avenger successfully jumped out of the system, with the Typhoon, barely damaged from defending the Avenger due to its strong shielding, following shortly after.

The Origins-class Light Frigate is a very old Trident vessel that has been around ever since the beginning of Trident. Ships of the class used to be found patrolling the spacelanes around the Trident home base and other allied stations, and when an Origins-class made a port call, citizens would be reassured that they were under the protection of the mighty Trident military.

The class was decommissioned in early 2315, as it was no longer suitable for Trident's objectives of the time. Eventually the Mercury II-class was built using the basic spaceframe, and the Origins legacy lives on through it.

This particular vessel was found corroded and drifting in a Trident surplus depot by Scavengers and has had its power systems restored and reactivated by them. Unfortunately, due to the ships' age there are various systems that are still highly volatile.

This vessel is suitable for Roleplay and for AI Pirate usage on servers.

I've been doing streaming recently, but I know not everyone can see streams as they happen, so I also grab the recordings and dump them on YouTube.
We've done two so far, and here they are:
Episode 1 - has a few details about our upcoming NPC Faction Pack and miscellaneous banter and ship tours.
Episode 2 - details some of the assets for our upcoming hybrid-RP series, The Lost Galaxy, as well as exploring more player-created ships.

I do these streams on most Fridays and you'll see me hanging round the NFD Build Server discord while I do them.

It's like deja vu. I think I've seen this ship somewhere...
