although your systems will need to recharge their power buffers
You can fire your weapons during this time however.
If you are to be believed, not quite. I mean I get your point, but if your weapons are on a 5 second reload and they need to recharge, thats as much as 5 seconds of damage you've lost upon switching reactors, unless you time it real well. If your turrets are set up with timed activation it would probably get messed up too. So I guess I'd agree it's not a death sentence, but still not worth doing for the purpose kikaha stated.

Last time I'm saying this, and what about the probably 3-6 months between now and when weapons are done?
Then the game isn't fun to play or competitive for 3-6 months. So what? I'm really questioning whether or not you truly, actually grasp what it means for a game to be in alpha.

So if you're caught out by an enemy with the wrong reactor running you'll definitely be at a disadvantage, but I don't think it would be fair to say it's a death sentence.
15 seconds per chamber... that's a long time.

    Thanks for the info!

(Also love your SBY btw :3, have you been watching the new SBY 2202 btw:?)
Thanks. First I've heard of SBY 2202. Will check it out.

(In the interests of staying OT and not getting deleted... I hear that's a thing now...)
Yeah 15 seconds per chamber means changing reactors mid fight is just not an option IMHO... for your flag ship if you get caught with the wrong reactor your in D.S.... The new chamber reactor system draws a line down between ships that are drones and ships that are piloted. As most of my ships will be dedicated drones now they're not going to have multiple reactors and the whole discussion pretty much becomes moot.

So, instead of saying the values restrict your build style and ruin your builds, why not suggest some new values that might work better?
It's actually going to need some mechanical changes as well as numbers. It needs to be an on or off "it works or it doesn't" system rather than more cube-like systems being increasingly durable. Anything that's over the 0 threshold should be as functional as a cube. As long as that is not the case, we're going to have problems with creative design and combat capability.

If you want anything combat effective it has to look like shit. If you build actual ships combat is never fun because everything breaks so quickly, and on the other hand dumbell ships are so broken its not even worth it to fight with them.

It is as functional as the cube. The problem is you need a buffer of integrity or your systems will start exploding when they take damage. It is for this reason that a lot of us feel more forgiving integrity values are in order (because the best we can do right now is keep integrity positive).

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! lol. I say we remove the need for a buffer. If the game stops recalculating integrity on damage, it will be fine. At that point anything above 0 will be feasible, and cubes will not be more durable than other shapes.

[doublepost=1518103786,1518102552][/doublepost]This update represents a regression from a roughly-finished game to one that just doesn't work. Alphas change, I get that, but an alpha for a game with shit reviews thats been floundering for 5 years (or more) with a dying player base can't afford to put their game in an unplayable state for what will likely be the better part of a year. The veteran community that LvD had is already fucking gone. The population spikes that Freaks and Brie had have pretty well leveled out. Players who have stuck around through Starmades worst times are disappearing, along with their factions. This was an awful choice from any intelligent business perspective.

Like how they went from doing just power systems to doing power systems, shields, weapon balance, thrust balance, and integrity in one update?
    Honestly bud, be consistent.
Honestly? Thats because of how much "feedback" they were getting about how "it forces us to build spaghetti ships", so more stuff got added in to combat that.
    No passive-aggressive statements here.
Not being passive aggressive, just listing options. There's lots of stuff to do without trying to focus on the one thing that isn't perfect at the moment. :)

There have been indications that the weapon update won't take that long. Maybe three months or so for an initial release. I believe Schema had most of the deep code stuff cleaned up by the time the working power update example came out in dev builds. If I had to guess, I'd say the integrity shenanigans will be fixed long before that. It only took a few weeks after release for the other broken mechanic (stabilizers) to get a passable fix. (Yes, I know the stabilizer fix needs a fix too. I'm sure that will come.)

Roughly finished? What? I've played several thousand hours of this games since 2013 and I cannot remember a time when I felt the game was anywhere near finished, nor do I recall a time when Schine has even remotely referred to the game as such. And I also really don't think you understand what an alpha is either, because whether Schine can "afford" to make changes to its game and what a "dying" playerbase means to a game that is literally unreleased is completely irrelevant (because it hasn't been released yet.)

I love how this thread, implying that something is "wrong" or 'broken' about Starmade has taken over the Suggestions forum.

    Pretty far off topic.

Gotta make sure every forum has some negative spin in it though, right? Because feedback?

That actually occurred to me a while ago, but I chose not to comment on it because it would have been a weird awkward moment for the whole thread.

Honestly fairly disappointed that this became more or less people debating the new power system rather than the original topic. Not sure if I should be upset that people downvoted the thread without seemingly even reading it :(
