Hey sorry everybody! Been super busy since I got moved and still getting things in order. The good news is I'm just about ready to show some stuff off, I can't yet but I can at least respond to everyone here to get myself caught up, so here we go:
I herby declare Saber rendered obsolete by rails :p
Alright, well time to pack up my bags. It's been great fun everybody! o/
I believe I've informed you of this in chat, but I also want to say this officially here so people can see it. The final decision on both stairs and ladders has been postponed until later in development. After a discussion with both the team and the council it has been decided that they are both low-priority as well as (in the case of ladders) would require additional work from schema that he can't currently spare. This does not mean that they will, or will not be in the game in the future, it just means that it hasn't yet been decided. So they're Schrodinger's Stairs at this point.
I think that's a great idea and I can bring it up to Schema in our next meeting. I'm assuming it's possible but I honestly can't say for sure. In truth I had designed the consoles with the intention they would be stood at and will end up making other display type decorations for sitting at, but your point stands regardless, we need to be sure we can sit in front of LOD objects.
I would like a block that is just the connecting wires from button or activator block. Basically just the two wires that come out of the center block. Would be nice if they lite up, but they don't have to. It should have most rotations. I think it would be a great block for tech details and also for showing damage behind panels among many others I have not thought about. Just a simple 2 wires from one side to the next that can rotate anyway and connect to the button or activator seamlessly.
Hmm, a lot of people have been asking lately for LOD buttons, so they don't have to use the big huge button block next to everything. Once we get interactions with LOD objects working correctly I could see that being a possibility, however I'm not sure about the wires you suggested. My main issue with it is that there isn't necessarily a need for it, like minecraft's redstone where you have the trails of it around, you don't have to do that with wires in your ship. I worry it might be misleading to new players, but also I'm not sure how much it would add to the interiors of ships visually, where we could maybe just use a full-block of wires instead.
I appreciate the thought put into it and I'm definitely open to hearing more about the idea, but at the current time I'm not sure it's something I'd want to pursue.
Saber, I noticed dropping the Torch in game it displays as the Laser.
Thanks for the heads up, I can talk to Kupu and Schema about that to see whose area that falls under.
Just depositing an idea here, because it doesn't belong in Kupu's thread.
A decorative but functional block I'd like to see is a fence/railing. Lot of people build a lot of balconies, and the smaller ones can't accept a 1/4 slab. (Also they don't do diagonals
No rush, just leaving this here to accumulate furry bits.
Actually I think you owe the council some thanks. So we (the Schine team) had a meeting with the council last week and they brought up stairs, ladders, as well as "fences". I was opposed to the idea as when I hear fence I just think minecraft, however they discussed the matter with me further and explained they mainly wanted railing and told me all the reasons slabs weren't as sufficient as I had thought they were.
Long story short, we're getting a handrail block in the game. I'll have some pics of that later this weekend.
Oh and with how it looks currently if you flip it upside down it makes a nice fence too.
I hope we can keep the light rods, they are good as "chain" for a lot of things when they are on off state.
Don't worry, it has never been intended for Light Rods to go away. Light Bars are simply an additional light, which we needed as an LOD object to test out that system. There are still some things to fix with it, but once it's working we'll have every color of light bar and it will be added to the light block and light rod multi-slot. Light rods aren't going anywhere.
