      I think you should just use a station with a faction module and achieve exactly the same thing. Asteroids can be pushed around anyway (depending on settings), so even if you had a shielded asteroid, someone could steal it by pushing it.

      It's a pretty hard thing to balance. In multiplayer, the 28 pirate stations will be destroyed by the players in no time, leaving the system boring. In singleplayer, it is excessive. I think it is set up for multiplayer servers by default at the moment.

      Did you try turning off occlusion culling and/or VBO bulk mode? (second page of launcher, settings menu, show advanced) Not sure if it will help, just a suggestion.

      As far as spawning inside your ship goes, I find that leaving 3 blocks of space above the core gives the best results.

      Have you got the 64 bit version of Java? If you have a 64 bit computer (I would guess you do), you should get it. The website only downloads the 32 bit version automatically.

      4 GB is enough actually, provided you don't have way too many background programs/windows open or want to build ten million block ships. Download 64 bit java (if you haven't got it already), and increase the memory settings on the first screen of the launcher.

      So you need to set it each time you use your computer? Do the settings get reset when you start your PC or something? If you don't mind the lower performance, you should be able to run it on the intel card with minimal settings. Lowest textures, no shadows, etc.

      Try setting the program "javaw.exe" to run on the Nvidia card (high performance) instead of the Starmade starter. This will most likely be a permanent solution for you.

      I suspect that your SP universe has carried over the old server config settings. I actually don't know though, as I haven't done a fresh install since the universe rework. I believe that the new default sector size is quite a lot bigger.

      Creatures are in progress. If you go to an abandoned station and explore it on foot you might find something. PS keep your pistol handy when exploring abandoned stations!
