    hi there!

could i request the ASP Explorer from Elite: Dangerous?

its 56m long by 51m wide

if i could get it in green advanced armour, that would be smashing!!
I seen this msg in my email.. But i haven't really been messing with these tools or this thread for a long time now. Not to mention that Smedit no longer works for me and i haven't learned any other schematic converting software. So unless someone else in the forums wants to help you.. then im afraid i will be of no help.. Aside from offering up a model in which could be used for conversion..
    Good luck

OMG, i love you! thank you!!!

if i had enough posts that i was allowed to give anything other than a 'like' reaction, i would!
You're welcome. Let me know when you've finished the ship as I'd love to see it when it's done.

I can no longer import .obj files into SMEdit which is how I used to convert models but I found a workarround. If you get Binvox you can use that to voxelise your 3d model and then import the binvox file into SMEdit and save it as a blueprint. I works well so far and also seems to produce better looking imports.

Could you convert a obj of sd9 to a station? To scale if possible.

I'm not sure about this, is the SMedit software even able to export station blueprints?

If not, you would have to import the station model as a ship, then manually cut-paste it onto a station entity, which sounds like very difficult work.

Ok... You can just upload the 'obj' file here (by using that "Upload a File" button near "Post Reply") and I will take a look at it.

The thing I do to make SMedit work is that I have a separate copy of an older game version (version 0.198.485) and I have that set in SMedit as the installation directory. SMedit seems to be unable to export blueprints into game versions newer than version 0.198.485.

But I can't promise a 1:1 scale blueprint, since Wikipedia says that the Deep Space Nine station you requested is 1,400 meter in diameter, which is a little too much.

I can make a half-sized blueprint, but even then it will be too large to cut in half to make sure that it's perfectly symmetrical (you know, that's necessary to be able to smooth both of its sides at the same time using a symmetry plane).

But if it's Ok for you this way, I will try to help :)

Nice job! And yep, Binvox to Smedit is the way to go. There's also one version of binvox that converts directly to a Blueprint, but likely you'll want to move the core anyway.
You can use various settings as well on binvox to get cleaner models.

DeepspaceMechanic your exporting ships from SM to smedit:? That would make sense, everything else on it seems to work fine with the newer versions.

ForgottenPrime It would be helpful is you also gave a max size for the station as well (e.g the longest dimension on the model you want in Starmade, such as 500 meters).

E.g Importing it as a Station and at 550m it looks pretty good I'd say.

Using SMEDIT's auto smooth it also looks pretty decent (just at exterioir blocks it clocks up to 900,000 though:

No. I wasn't even aware that you can go SM-->SMedit, actually, I did it just the other way around so far.

I'll have to check it again sometime if you say that SMedit works with newer versions too. At the time when it first failed to work for me, I thought it must be the change in chunk-size, so I've been using the last chunk-16 version ever since. (Or at least that's what I think I'm doing; I believe the chunk-32 update came right after version 0.198.485.)

The station looks absolutely beautiful on the pictures you have shown (y)

I guess it would be better if it was you doing the import for ForgottenPrime, after he tells you the desired size, since you are much more knowledgeable about these matters.

Thank you for Showing this. I thought I gave dimensions my bad. 575 Would be nice. I like the off Dimension. Thank you. I like to use the center block as the core of any design (includeing ships).

By that I ment you can't open up current ship blueprints from modern versions in smedit ( you would need to use an older version like your doing), you can only import with the newer versions.

I also recently came across these two tools:
    Blueprinttype Converter
    BlueprintCoreManipulator

Which still work and make life much easier, allowing you to change entity type and core placement on the fly!
    _____________________________________________________________________________

How I do the file conversion:
(there is also a program called Vox2Sm3 which turns in straight into a blueprint, but I havn't used it a whole lot, it just means you don't need to use SMEdit)

Download binvox: (you can get one version of it here)
    Programs and editors/Binvox

    You can find SMEdit here:
    SMEDIT

Place your .obj file (can use Sketckup to export models as obj) in the same directory as binvox.exe

Open command promt and navigate to the folder with binvox.
Fro example, this is my one:

Then type in binvox followed by whatever commands you want then the file name.

E.g and then press enter. A binvox file will appear in that directory which you can then open in SMEdit

Then you just open SMEdit and import, do what you want then export as a blueprint :P (e.g further rotation, core, adding wedges to smooth, changing colour)

550m seems a bit small for DS9 considering its interior size, combat capabilities, and average on-screen size.
For the interior, there's a rather large mall-like area with two levels in the center near the top (the last shot of the series is a zoomout from the windows of it, for reference). The rest of it has many, many corridors.
It also might be hard to fit in the dozen or so turrets that seemed to each be as powerful as a ship's main weapons. DS9 in combat was an absolute beast; the Klingon main battle fleet was forced to retreat against it and the Dominion/Cardassian main battle fleet lost over 50 ships to take it.
