Loool sweet giant windows. And the gold eagle. And the odd statue.
How much weirder can he make it? Only about - what? 1100 meters of stuff to build yet?

Please do not breathe on the titan. If it moves, NFD nfds. And there will be much roaming of the halls and weeping.

What's this "NFDs" reference? I assume it is something to do with slideshow and/or server crashes, but is there some specific insider joke I'm missing here?

Slideshows and server crashes are such a common occurrence on NFD that when it does happen, there or on other servers, it's NFD'd itself.

warning: not an update on the titan build

How I typically class ships from Corvette to Titan:

Corvette = sub 10k mass and around 100m in longest axis, with a preference for speed over firepower and defence. Often a good idea to use them for scouting and defending fighter squadrons. Classification includes Light-Corvette, Medium-Corvette, and Heavy-Corvette.

Frigate = sub 30k mass and around 150m-250m in longest axis, made to fight multiple smaller targets while remaining as fast as possible without hindering offensive or defensive capabilities. Often a good idea to use them as escort ships for larger BattleCruisers. Classification includes Light-Frigate, Medium-Frigate, and Heavy-Frigate.

Destroyer = sub 50k mass and around 170m-300m in longest axis, designed to fight a single larger target, sacrifices on speed to keep good defence and offensive capabilities are ok. Often a good idea to use them as main fleet ships as multiple will be a threat to most larger ships. Classification includes Light-Destroyer, Medium-Destroyer, and Heavy-Destroyer.

Assault variants of Destroyers and Frigates = primary focus on close range weaponry and mobility over defence.

Corvettes, Frigates, and Destroyers are line-ships

Light-Cruiser = sub 100k mass and around 350m-400m in longest axis, designed to fight either a similar sized ship or smaller line-ships. Often a good idea to field them in pairs to flank a larger target or to act as a shield for smaller ships. Classification includes Light-Cruiser.

Medium-Cruiser = sub 150k mass and around 400m-500m in longest axis, designed to fight light cruisers and defend line-ships and Titans. Often a good idea to use these alongside Destroyers to provide more firepower to the frontal attack and allowing it to last a bit longer against an overwhelming foe. Classification includes Medium-Cruiser, and Carrier/Cruiser hybrids.

Battle-Cruiser = sub 500k mass and around 600m in longest axis, designed to fight cruisers and supplement the firepower of battleships and to when used in groups to engage Titans. Often a good idea to use these as the backbone of a fleet and to make a second attack line/defence line. Classification includes Battle-Cruiser, Heavy-Cruiser, and Carrier/Cruiser hybrids.

Battleship = over 500k mass and around 800m in longest axis, designed as a general purpose combat ship to fight both smaller targets and similar sized targets. Often a good idea to keep these at a longer range from an enemy fleet to better use a large cone of fire to damage a lot more enemy ships, or to use them at close range to cripple enemy Battle-Cruisers. Classification includes Battleship, Dreadnought, Battleship/Carrier hybrids, and Sub-Titan-Capital ships.

Titan = over 1million mass and over 1km in longest axis, designed as a general purpose combat ship to fight entire enemy fleets. Often a good idea to: A. not use these. B. keep them a large distance from the enemy fleet and use it as a command centre while providing fire support to your friendly fleet at long range. Classification includes Mobile-Command ships, Capital ships, Titans, Super-Titans, SuperCarriers, and Armed-ColonyShips.

these are just a few of the many classifications, but it is generally what I use most of the time

Well, this is pretty much close to what I had decided upon for a range of ships that Gaswerks might, eventually, build.

Finally, someone who takes into consideration both size AND role when classifying ships, and leaves room for some overlap!

It's pretty well thought out, too! I like it.

And now for a post on how to build 40k for vanilla servers.

    starting off with the imperium:
a lot of interior space to build up more AHP and to sacrifice some space for shields. the prow of imperium ships should typically have at least 30m thick adv armour to soak up more damage. however do not forget about shields as the imperium do have some very good shields on the larger ships. most weapons are turret mounted, so indent them deep into the ship to maximise the size of them.

    orks:
even more interior space than the imperium to allow for hardly any shielding. a lot of missile based weapons on the ship as well as a lot of smaller anti-ship turrets, also swarmer missiles on some of the broadside facing turrets. have at least 7m thick adv armour all around the ship, however at the engines only have 2m thick.

    chaos:
basically imperium ships with more thrusters and more damage beams. to make a good lance essentially make a meta-projectile weapon using the damage beams instead of the normal cannons, a meta projectile can be built like this 1block weapon-1block gap-1block weapon and so on, in the gap you can place the slaved systems to the weapon.

    tau:
shields and passive shield and armour boosting effects with the thrusters set to 60% turning. long range weapons such as cannon/beam/punch are what you want to use for the main weapons, with cannon/cannon turrets for close range stuff. also have plenty of hangars for drones in as many ships that are large enough to fit at least 20 drones, you can thank me later.

    eldar:
thrusters shields and overdrive, that is basically all you will need, oh and motherboards and basic hull to make the shape and to detail it. a lot of limited-arc forwards facing damage beam turrets with a lot of smaller cannon/cannon turrets for close range block destruction. remember to have passive ion effects turned on at all times and to have enough power to remain power stable, I suggest a lot of aux power.

    spacemarines:
    a. lot. of. armour. and. nothing. else. basically. oh. and. shields.

    necrons:
solid blocks of armour and shields with the power towards the back of the ships along with thrusters. have the weapons mostly turret mounted or docked to the main ship and fired by ai.

feel free to suggest more races for how to build for vanilla servers :)

    very well

    mechanicum:
think imperium ships with docked armour in certain places. the main weapon would be cannon/pulse/punch and would also have a lot of ion weaponry as secondary weapons on the ship, all turrets would be cannon/beam/pierce.

    nids:
make them mostly out of terrain and motherboards with adv armour shells. the fronts of the ships should have internal spaced armour behind a 20m thick adv armour layer if they are large enough. use minimal shields but a lot of aux power. weapons would be missiles and missile/pulse for long range with damage pulse for extreme close range, swarm missiles will also be used by the largest ships.

    squats:
use imperium ships but with salvage cannons as well as the main armament. add an extra 4m thick layer of adv armour all around.

    daemon ships:
chaos ships but with terrain details around the ship relating to the dark god it is devoted to:
khorne: a lot of spikes around the ship and paint it red. you will need to use cannon/cannon on all weapons and get rid of the damage beam turrets, as you will need to focus on getting to very close ranges to engage enemy ships.
nurgle: make it look organic in shape and paint it green and yellow. you will need to use a lot of swarm missiles and missile/pulse as well as having a lot of broadside drone bays. drones should be equipped with cannon/cannon/overdrive.
tzeench: slightly more pointy and painted blue. you will need to use even more damage beams and try not to get very close to your enemy, so use beam/beam.
slaanesh: add a few tentacles here and there: it is best to keep to the normal weapons and systems as a normal chaos ship.

finally nearing the point with the interior that the top half of the bridge will be connected together.

however the bottom half still needs an absolute (excuse my bass player speak) a slappadoodlewinkledinkle of work done to it before it reaches a similar state of "interior done requires detail".

    speaking of interior
corridor to maintenance corridor. it includes some basic slums at the moment.
perfect living conditions, surviving off rats and the water condensation caused from the sweat of hard labour. IMPERIUM FUCK YEAH!

also the maintenance corridor thing has several holes that act as windows
(you can jump out of this one and fall around 20m to the ground below) they provide a nice view to the courtyard.

by the way you cannot go up those stairs to get to the walkway, those stairs go to the outside land and storage cupboards. to get to that walkway you need to find a hidden staircase in the bridge, climb up that, then you can cross the walkway travel up a rail lift then walk for around 30 seconds down the slum corridor, then get to your destination of the logic control for the door.

this is the door by the way.

    obligatory beauty shot

why have engines when you can have spires the size of most destroyers?
