Thank you for second place! Honored to be right next to that masterpiece that is WS Dakota.
docpenguindoc's two entries remained unshowcased, he previously put together all submissions:
A remark I'd like to add is about the connectivity of my ship's operations. I've put a lot of effort into making everything seem to flow around realistically. The details tell two storylines.
One is about rocket fuel:
- mining ships dump asteroid ice into the collector atop the ore refinery
- where a drone melts it (animated)
- then liquid water flows into the ore refinery, from where it's pumped to the fuel plant
- within the fuel plant, a big pool contains the water while it's separated into gaseous O2 and H2
- the oxygen and hydrogen get compressed, cooled and liquefied
- then pumped outside, into appropriately labeled tanks (actually traceable pipelines!)
The second story is about ship components:
- conveyor belts can be seen moving stuff from the mineral dumps into the ore refinery
- dedicated machines sort out each starmade ore and shard, plus sand (used for glass production)
- nine snaking pipes lead the ore refinery's granulate outputs to the metal foundry
- where a series of conveyor belt steps transform pure metals and carbon into workable alloys
- chunks of alloy are carried by trucks to the component factory
- where cutting/welding/handling robotic arms put materials together into functional parts
Obviously, both sequences come to a dead end, because the ship's lower half isn't finished. The finial destination of both fuels and components should be the shipyard and hangar bays (freighters could ship out the excesses to be sold elsewhere). To be continued.
