It was my understanding that these rotating blocks was an option in addition to the old style turret system... although I am not sure how well the old style would work with the physically touching blocks.
I am leaning towards my newer option. Having some kind of "weapon output" block that you put in the barrel or some way to tell the weapons computer on the turret body to output it's weapon from the docked entity. This way we will not be limited by the size of the barrel... but it does raise...
I don't use them, or at least have not used them yet. I find myself wanting wedges... I would be more likely to use them if they had wedges as well. For the sake of block IDs they could be limited to wedges only.
Yeah that's what I mean. In most cases the barrel of a turret is going to be the smaller part of the turret. These will have to be their own entity in order to articulate. In this case they must contain all the weapons but this would really limit the turret as the only thing you can put in...
I figured that would be the case. I wonder if linking the output could be a simple solution. All weapons (master/slave/tertiary) are contained in the body of the turret but the output itself, where the shot originates from, is linked to a block at the end of the barrel. So you have the option...
Wow really? All I wanted was for the turret body to share it's shields with the rest of the turret and now your telling us that turrets will be partially protected by the mother-ship?! That is monumental news! What about shared weapon components between turret entities? Like the barrel...
I guess you have not worked out the logistics of these entities being able to share aspects such as weapons and shields. In regards to turrets big turrets with articulating barrels are a problem. If all the weapons and shields must be contained in the barrel than this really limits the ability...
That would require specific docks for this ship, the point of my hanger was to dock as many different types of ships as it could. This also doesn't help it dock to external landing pads that have no structure around it. I know I am no longer limited to docking to the center, the problem is I...
Of course if you split the blocks, halve/whatever the mass, and don't adjust the HP values than you can easily create lighter ships that have the same amount of armor by strategically using wedges and the even lighter corners over flat planes which is a bad thing. I would much prefer the angled...
Easy. The armor and HP values are the same for all the sizes of blocks. Essentially if you were to get 2 wedges every time you "split" a block would essentially be getting twice the armor and HP for the same base cost.
Honestly I think we should be able to convert regular blocks into whatever...
Oh the turret possibilities! Of course for this to be even remotely useful the turret body will have to give it's shields to the barrels which will need to contain all the weapons of the gun... unless the body can also slave it's weapons then OMG the turrets we can create!
I really don't understand how people couldn't get the old docking system? It wasn't that complicated. Your core was the center of your ship, as long as your ship fit in the dock, it docked. No problems ever. If you built your ships with docking in mine it was never a problem. This new...
"The old system will slowly be phased out once we release this new system, eventually resulting in the current docking beam becoming an activation beam only."
The blog post itself mentioned the old system will be "phased out" therefore yes it's been confirmed old style docking will be removed...
Docking two compatible airlocks together is one thing, docking an entire ship on a flat landing platform is another. You may not always want to dock airlock to airlock. USDs will not work on the internal hanger deck of my carrier or the external docking mounts.
Another problem I am seeing is if two blocks have to touch this more or less eliminates large standard docks or any all encompassing docking system in general. Docks will more or less have to be specialized for specific ships. I cannot just build a large flat landing pad with a dock in the...
