All the drones came in through 1 rail and exited in groups of five. I had to change the system because it took way too long for all the drones to get back on the ship. It would work with a smaller amount of drones, though.

The thing with automatic mining drone recall is brilliant. I was trying to figure out a system that could do that but simply using logic with storage is the best I've seen so far.
Well yes, but you don't need to mirror it if you don't forget to use symmetry...... Can't you just press undo, place the symmetry mode and re-paste?
I've run into instances where mirroring would've been useful. However, simply pasting with symmetry mode on and copying the flipped piece works...
For the direction change logic, did you use normal rails? Because if you use normal rails then yes, the rails being controlled will change into normal rails. You need to use pickup rails in the logic as well.

Yea, it slows you down with 33% thrust. Basically it's unaffected by thrust settings, so it can either be better or worse than thrusting by hand.
Edit: You're right, I had images disabled on my phone so I didn't see the illustration.
Did you re-allocate thrust? Because in that case then yes. Pressing shift applies 33% thrust in all directions, doesn't matter if you changed your thrust settings or not. If you didn't there wouldn't be a difference. I'll ask the devs if it's planned to have the settings affect the shift key as...
