      Lasers are buggy at long ranges and have a tendency to pass strait through a target. Cannons or Missiles are your only choice when it comes to ranged weapons right now. I like using explosive and punch on my cannons, punch for higher damage guns and explosive for lower.

      Just having the rails off scene somewhere , joining the pieces together, zapping em with a laser before moving onto the next step, that would work. You really could loop it so it looks like it just keeps going.

      I'm tempted to set this as "planned" as the proposed shipyard system should give you the ability to edit a ghost of a ship, save the blueprint and then have the shipyard build that ship. It's not exactly what you're asking for but it's at least something.
