      Core position really doesn't mater anymore with the HP system. It's no longer the center of the ship or the location the AI will target. If it's convenient on the bridge than that's the best place for it.

      That would change thrust to mass ratio and slow down acceleration, it shouldn't make engines use more power.

      Have you even looked at the values? It starts taking effect way before a ship is destroyed. At 90% HP your remaining shields, thrust, and power is only 90% effective.
