[OT] What draws you into playing StarMade over others in this genre?

SE has a better physics implementation - this is what drains the cpu. With SE's planets and computers, I could imagine playing SE too. SE has what SM doesn't and vice versa.

Thicker, better, stronger, a new armor mechanic

Examples: Ship 10x10x10 has 1 block thick armour Ship 100x100x100 has 10 blocks thick armour and 100 times the surface. Gun 1x1x1 deals 1x damage Gun 10x10x10 deals 1'000 damage Your armour and weapon power both scale the same (10*100 = 1000), but "your armour becomes smaller" and "the ship...

Thicker, better, stronger, a new armor mechanic

The core problem: But as the weapon system grows, it gains depth, width and length while hull only gets depth and the width/length is elsewhere. With elsewhere I mean not at the spot which is targeted. This may be a lesser problem if the attacker suffers from inaccuracy or uses AOE, but it is...

Flexible Power System Overhaul Proposal (updated)

If an AI builds your ship according to your specifications, who is the builder? The AI or you? That is where our opinions part. - I think good shipbuilders should be rewarded, but I guess your proposal sets the entry-barrier of required skill before noticeable reward higher. The result could be...

Flexible Power System Overhaul Proposal (updated)

If you require overdrive blocks in that system, you cannot change it during combat or mission, only in your shipyard. Think about it like this: But if you go out with 100$, a thief can steal 100$ from you. But if you go out with 10'000$, the thief steals 10'000$ from you. Thus unless you...

      Starmade overhaul

ShadowBlitz16 these were the parts I didn't wrote because it would have made my post too long. I would very much like a display block where letters are buttons or which interacts with the keyboard on every keypress. But we shouldn't require display blocks for everything - not just because...

      Power Generation and Gameplay Possibility

I short: Fuel has the same pro/cons as warheads. It is nice to have fuel as ammo (boosting power during combat) or for over-driving your exploration vessel's engines. But you should be able to regenerate fuel on ships with "free energy" which is sufficient to reach the next trade station or...

      Jump System Overhaul

I like that. A weak inhibitor protects a station but isn't "blocking" your course completely About unloaded sectors: Information about hit-boxes of unloaded objects is a lot smaller, because docked entities or block-data do not need to be included, this information could be stored per system...

Flexible Power System Overhaul Proposal (updated)

We can think about real-life applications (not because realism, but people's creativity IRL) overdrive / overclock / over* You usually do this if something has short life-times: example A: expendable drones. example B: racing ships. or a limit-breaker: example A: weapons on civilian ships...

      Heat Mechanic

Heat transfer is not as instant as Electricity transfer, thus replacing power with heat alone gives a new balance factor which is also realistic. But why did you open a new thread for it?

Add touch activation for gravity blocks

Thanks, Lord Daro. My approach wasn't only to reduce to a minimal amount of blocks, but to "unify read/write access". It will be easier to implement other new features this way (detect flight angle of target ship, etc). The real issue is that we cannot read "an astronaut's current gravity".

Question; WHEN are you going to do this power change?

When an alternative power source IRL comes out, it's not optimized until further research. When you said that, I thought about a tiered system and experimental tiers which may break "when the gravity balance in the universe changes" :)

Changing The Blueprint Format: The Suggestion That Breaks Everything™

1 hex char is 16 possibilities or 4 bits. 8 hex-chars are 32-bit or 4 byte!! I would make orientation a part of hp instead. 8 orientation bits would save 2-3 hp bits. 8 sub-blocks which share ID (so same armour, colour, …) would increase the amount of hp to 4 or 8 times (to repair, use the...

      Shipyards allowing core movement

It's not about "allow/deny" but "game performance" and "coding difficulty". Perhaps :schema:will some day figure out how to avoid absolute placement and use relative placement.

      Jump System Overhaul

Summary (I hope I understood it correctly): Warp-System Warp-Core : entry delay, explosive Warp-Coils : warp speed Warp-Control Player flies a straight line "from start, to destination", but destination is the "rear side". Player can manually cancel warp at the "front side" of the...

Change power all you like, it wont help us.

Reminds me of this Once I logged into the test server … … one invited me to 100.0.0 or similar … and killed me with his heat-seakers because he didn't know I had only a starter ship.

The Power Overhaul Must NOT Happen ASAP

:schema:has a good game if the universe gets more interesting (npc encounters, minecraft-beauty for planets) and the game more stable (bugs+balance+compatibility). A little bit of depth to space would help too (some games have fog or a skybox with asteroids) along with immersion (from a...

      Fix the bugs (With poll)

Priorities: Small new feature to keep peoples excited Bugpatching Default balance patches Bugfixing … Bigger releases … Balance fixes. Note: A patch is a quick workaround, while a fix is more permanent/lasting. Patches are meant to "fix it" until the next update releases a real fix.
