Could work and I know Schine has some thoughts to make void space more interesting. Main idea was to make it so you can't just go "LAWL" and bugger off to an entirely different galaxy on a whim. Then complain there's no interaction on the server as a result. :D
It would also help avoid the issue of nesting multiple bounding boxes within each other like is possible with space efficient reactor designs currently. Even if sticks are much simpler to build/repair.
Well you could have it be where reactor efficiency (to a point) does scale with size but so does the eventual boom. So having one large central reactor for your Deathstar is really efficient in terms of fuel usage, but if it ever goes....

Its an interesting idea and reminds me of Big Reactors mod for Minecraft which I would personally be a fan of. However I don't know how well that would work out for trying to keep things simple for new players though it would work fairly well by giving the veterans plenty of depth to play with...

I honestly would prefer to think it started as a way to legitimately filter potentially good suggestions or even parts of them and just went pear shaped for whatever reason. Now I understand that in the end the Devs probably have more experience in their relevant fields than your average player...
