Thanks for the constructive criticism Ithirahad.
I have a couple of questions. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "don't forget to re-add not just copies of the detail elements, but structural designs that are similar too... The Isanth-0," To me it seems that you are saying to build similar elements onto my ships and not just straight out copy elements. Is that what you are saying? If not, please expand further on what you mean. Honestly though, I was kinda going for the big box with engines and a control section look. That to me was what I thought a freighter inspired by I-0 would look like, and I was kinda afraid I was making the the ship look too cool when I extended the weapons ridges as far back as I did.
If you'd like to redesign my freighter I think that would be awsome too. I love it when a big community like this can take each others ideas and make them better! But I'll keep your suggestions in mind and see how I can improve the freighter.
Yes, I do mean to build similar elements on. I see what you were going for with the freighter, but the result is that it looks like a flying Eastern Long-Necked Turtle with an awkward flat top... Pulling the cockpit back and maybe adding some slight rounding on the top would unify the lines a bit more. Also, the side surfaces could use something minor to make them slightly more interesting... Since it's a Trading Guild ship, you could always try little patches of ice crystal, say, replacing two of the wedges in the centers of the surfaces.
The other question is about my pirate ships. I was a little disappointed to read that you didn't like all my silly wedges sticking out everywhere. I try not to over do it, but that's my way of making pirate ships look more jagged and menacing. If I am to try to use less wedges, how would you suggest keeping a jagged menacing look for pirate ships? I'd love to try that out, cause sometimes I feel my ships look silly too. I just haven't come up with a better idea yet.
If you want jagged and menacing, make it part of the hull surface, not something silly sticking out. Put zigzagging edges on the back or front or use the pink wedges, but embedded
in the hull as "vent"-type structures or something, I don't know. The wedges, which even you admit are silly, don't make it look menacing - They just make it look, well, silly.
When you talked about all those big black flat geometric surfaces I think you you had the Scarab in mind. Am I right? I admit, It's not the coolest looking ship but I kinda designed it to offset the the Nightshade. It turned out to be a bit of a glass canon. So I made the Scarab to be able to be a hit tank. I tried to offset all those large flat shapes with elements like the green venting, the sensor dish in front, and more silly wedges. But I'll think about it. Again, if you'd like to redesign it, I'd love to see what you come up with.
Eh, generally speaking, on ships of that size, random details don't offset boring flat surfaces unless they're part of said flat surface. But if I were you, I'd get the 'flower' off of the front section, round it off somewhat, flat sections a bit (Try "stairstepping" the wedge (angular) surfaces so that they extend out more.) and, as I said earlier, remove or replace the silly wedges. No evil raiding ship should have a Mohawk.
