REALLY LIKE the fact that the ship moves now forward in the direction you aim in the new dev build.

Is there any post/info regarding future balancing? Since in the dev builds the shield systems got a somewhat surprising change and there has been long talk about hull changes....

I don't know what the heck is going on, shields are so high yet nobody can sustain them and power is constantly being drained from ship :I

The shield system *should be draining 10 power per shield point regenerated, at a rate of 5.5 regen per second per block.
At full capacity, no drain should occur.
At reduced % regen after weapon impacts (depending on current shield health) the power/regen usage should be reduced in tandem.
Their are a few bugs affecting them and we're working on identifying them and correcting them.

Yeah shields are really wonky right now. I jumped in my destroyer and it has twice as much shields as it did before, but I could only charge the shields in clumps of about 1000. I sat there and sat there and my shields never charged. The same was true in my fighter I tested. Because shields are not at 100% when the sectors load this was really apparent. My fighter would be completely crippled if it got shot a few times, the attempt to charge the shields rendered the thrusters and weapons useless. Spawned a few targets for my destroyer and it was still unable to kill them but for some reason my AI accuracy got set to 99% accurate at one meter so they were mostly useless, must re-test with higher values.

Correction, my AI accuracy is set to 99% at 1000 meters and they still cannot hit the Isanth circling me like a vulture.

My destroyer has 1.4 mil shields in the dev build I downloaded today, it charges its shields in chunks of about 4000 and that consumes nearly all of the 204269.2 power this ship has to do this.

Edit: Ahh I browsed the bugtracker and I see that the shield issue seems to be a rounding error

How do you do that? I'm using the new dev build. but when I turn mid flight I'm still flying, well, sideways relative to the direction I'm then facing.

Imho, there is a need of cosmetic customization system for weapons and shields as well. Sounds, colors, projectile sizes, shapes... maybe something else.

These values looks OK regarding of the DPS of the weapons good news!

I don't know, maybe I was just imagining, either way it would be good to have the physics of ships work like planes do on earth.

But they don't. Inertia would keep you flying in direction you were thrusted in. :P In space you can't fly like the fighters in Star Wars do, something I like about StarMade. You actually need to counter your early thrust to come to a stand. ^^

Yes I know it isn't like that but I would like it if it was like that, or at least that there was a hotkey to turn it off or on.

not sure if anyone alrdy mentioned this but i just tested today's most recent dev build and swarm missiles seem alot smarter. spawned some ships near a shop and all missiles went straight for the ships. they ignored the shop.

still haven't tested with faction ships and/or with turrets but i looks like missiles are on track to being way cooler

Excuse me if it was posted a few pages back or something, but how do I activate the dev builds?
I searched for it everywhere but I couldn't find anything.

    1. Download
    2. Backup your StarMade folder (make a copy put somewhere safe)
    3. Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file directly into the StarMade folder.
    replace any files it asks
Play as usual via the shortcut on the desktop....

Another note... your better off just waiting as the next update should be sometime this week most dev build issues have been resolved thought there are some bugs still.

The latest dev is great but again its dev... just to bug testing not mass building. But if you can't wait you now have the info you need.

    2 Things to say:
1: Thanks for helping me out!
2: I will backup my folder, but in all honesty, I am a type of person who couldn't care less if his worlds were deleted, mostly because I haven't really made anything worthwhile yet.

It's absolutely possible to fly a perfect curve without drifting in space, even better than with a plane. All that is needed is thrust going sideways. Proper synchronization of rotation and sideways acceleration is a bit difficult, but this can be automated, making flying a curve as simple as pressing the 'left' button. A realistic space fighter would probably have hinged thrusters or a central combustor with several nozzles for different directions.
In StarMade thrust seems to go backwards, but works in all directions without a logical explanation for this behaviour. As long as sideways acceleration is possible driftless curves are possible. Currently it's just a question of skill and basic newtonian mechanics. Ship behaviour like in Star Wars and most space combat games could be achieved by modifying the controls, without changing the physics.

Did they spread or did they focus on one ship?

Missiles are good now, on a small scale they can finally punch holes, but small holes which makes a lot more sense than basically being sluggish sperms that release orange dust on your hull upon impact :D
