Harvester-Squid

    Harvester-Squid v0.198.219

The Harvest-Squid is an organic design in simple grey & green (so you can color and change its appearance to match your fleet/style). The interior is RP finished with plenty of room to complete the RP or beef the ship right up (or even add turrets on the outside). Note that the images are not current as I've updated to Rails, Cargo and UDP recently.

The purpose of the ship is to quickly mine asteroids and its does it VERY quickly (salvages battle fields very fast as well). There are limited weapons on board (HS Missiles) but the Jump drive charges fast, the ship accelerates very quickly (good mass to thrust ratio) and it's best to use the Radar Jammer to avoid trouble. The use of the automated mining system is explained farther below, here are the numbers:

    Mass: 4787.9
    Length: 139m
    Height: 75m
    Width: 75m
    Power: 3.0M (recharge 550K/sec)
    Thrust: 4585
    Shields: 217K (recharge 7K/sec)
Weaponry: Missiles (19x heat seekers & explosive)
    Extras/Notes:
    • Jump Drive
    • Radar Jammer
    • Scanner
    • 5x Directional Automated Logic Mining (see notes)
    • Cargo management
    • The 'front' is the tentacle end, so don't get confused.

All salvaged materials are funneled to a storage located on the outside of the hull, under the control room. This allows easier removal of material from the ship to a station.

See that salvage beam array, that is 5 different emitter arrays all pointing to the center of the squids tentacles. An asteroid or ship is hit from 5 different sides and this stripped down in tremendous speed.

To use the array fly to an asteroid field, best to enable 'Asteroids' in your NAV filter to make this easier. Pick your target and guide it between the tentacles. Salvager Activation logic is activated like a regular weapon and it will start to cycle (toggle on or off). Back to flying mode and guide/rotate the ship as needed. Eventually you get fast and don't even need to turn off the array, just fly by NAV.

Note: Those salvagers facing towards each other are offset 1 block (which makes symmetry nearly impossible) for added efficiency. Don't try this at home.

Really usefull ship, makes mining the easiest thing ever, although produces some lag when working.
Excellent ship design in both systems and aesthetics, my new favorite miner.
Very effective salvager, looks complement function nicely.

The only problem I have is inherent to all logic operated weapon/support systems is that you have to aim the whole ship.

I've been working on an idea that may benefit this design. If you were to make some small changes to the logic and make the forward firing array manually controlled you could have the arrays mounted in the 'arms' start automatically shortly after the pilot started using the forward array and have them shut off a couple of storage block pull cycles after they no longer were collecting anything.
I have a ship that has been sitting for 6 months at about 50% done that is this exact concept, it's not a squid though. I suck at completing larger ships lol.

Anyway, now I can use yours and don't ever have to complete mine thanks haha.
makes asteroids profitable again. also very low tech materials means you can craft this early.

i'd suggest more cameras, one on the upper inside of the tentacle area, a bit out of the main part of the forward salvager beam spread in particular, and a finished interior; I pop behind walls if I accidentally enter a salvager cpu.

i love the fake cockpit, complete with camera and red hull markings. this has become by go-to miner for asteroids.

Still considering what to do inside, plenty of room but once I'm really familiar with the ship I'll complete the guts. That room behind the computers is for 'maintenance', door to be added next version.
Rips asteroid fields apart quickly, tricky to learn to drive but after a few its really fast, looks cool too
