This "Palette Style" combined with Unlimited Docking will bring a new era in ship building.

Dock modules like hangers with fighters; Defensive turret arrays; Docked single-facing capital weapons; and much more docked onto a frame/hull. The frame powered and filled with pre-made systems and rooms from a palette. All this combined and you can turn out whole themed fleets in a fraction of the time it used to take.

Just standardize the docked modules and palette and focus on the style and hull of a ship. You can also make modular ships that can change roles by swapping out docked modules. Your anti-capital frigate can turn into a escort-carrier frigate in minutes.

I can't wait to get started....

Well well well. Seems like I just found a new way to finish all those damned requests. Hurray for prefabbed plates! And thank you Tenk for enlightening us all with this splendid idea.

I wish that I could use this type of technique. But I unfortunately can't build anything that isn't a slanted/ angled surface :P

Wait... I may have a solutions... If it works it'll make my life a bazillion times easier. I'll keep you posted.

I hate to be the killjoy here, but this system does have some major drawbacks

The ships can be built quickly and repaired easily, for sure. However, they'll be nowhere near as efficient as a similar sized ship built in the "traditional" method.
There's also far more exposed surfaces, meaning ships built this way will adversely affect those with poor computers.

It is creative though, I'll give it that.

well i guess you are right about exposed surfaces, even tho there arent many of them.
but this 200m ship that i built with this,is a bit more powerfull than some other 200m ships i spawned, simply because it was built out of perfect power generator setups,so even tho there is a lot of empty space between generators and hull, word "perfect power" kinda fixes that all :p
so they are the same size, and as powerfull as any other ship of that size :p

I guess my shipbuilding methods are just so different form yours that I don't see the true value of this system

I do use "copy paste" reactor cubes on my larger ships, but they're somewhat different.

I have a new twist on this idea that mite be fun to try.

I took your "palate" idea and used it to dissect my oldest designs which I will release as soon as I'm done looking it over. My old Draconis class fighter is rather easy to disassemble this way, and as it turns out it can even be really adaptable under this system of construction. the engines alone can be configured in a way that can make it quite nimble. its all works out in a way that makes it really useful. i thought about it and maybe perhaps we could do this with other older ships to make them updated. thought I would share this too.
