    As I understand the mechanics, you can't drag a planet with you because you can't actually dock a planet to anything. You can dock things to a planet, but not vice-verse. The planet would be the "master" (or the entity to which everything else is connected to), and therefore the only entity capable of travel. Since you can't put a core on a planet (or functional engines...), you can't fly the planet.

    You can't move planets. When you dock to something you become it's slave, it moves you. There is no way to pilot and dock a planet or plate to a ship in order to become it's slave and be moved by the ship.
    Yeah, I know you can't move planets (well there was that bug where you could dock and jump off with one.....) I'm just making jokes about how big Keptik's ship is until I find something more amusing.

    And the thing would go around the planet, not be attached to it. You'd need to build just outside the gravity field. It would also lag the hell out of everyone I'm sure, and probably crash most servers, but otherwise would be a really cool spacestation/planetary shield.

    well, yea you are right in that part but!
    rails have like infinite power, its about tha mass so maybe if you have a ship with a bigger mass than a planet, you could put a long stick on rails, theoraticly it should work. realitivly it wouldn't

    aand btw it's still a nice thing to talk about

    If you pillar up from the planet to dock the ring it would no longer affected by gravity, if it works on that station it will work on a planet, the difference is the planet ring would need to be bigger but other than that it shouldn't have much impact.

    So here's the deathbot I made last year just for fun, finally with a walking animation and aimable guns(sorta)!
    Does it actually work on a planets surface? I tried making my squid ship tentacles writhe around listlessly but if another tentacle or any other object interrupted ones movement than a return pulse gets missed and one tentacle starts a chain reaction locking up all the other tentacles into a big tangle. I ended up ditching the idea but did you work out a trick for it?

    But would it be a space station or a ship docked to the planet at that point?

    Does it traverse land? Regardless it is a magnificent piece of starmade engineering!

    I think you may lose your "#1 normal ass normal builder" title for this. Nothing normal here, good job!
    B-But it makes me feel my own kind of special. ;_;

    Unfortunately it doesn't, with better logic and maybe a better shape I imagine a mech walking on a planet is possible, but I had a limited space to put all the logic into so it ended up being a very rudimentary logic system.
    I actually tried to put a railed platform on a planet to move backwards while the bot "walked" in place so it'd look like it was actually walking but I got discouraged due to extreme frustration. :p

    Someone actually tried it, but it just walked in place: http://starmadedock.net/threads/moonwalking-mech-on-a-moon.6882/
    Hopefully the devs implement friction so my mech machinations can proceed as planned.

    I will probably start work on some mechs anyway, just to have them ready incase they patch the game. I may show them off when I'm satisfied with the result.
