    Yeah not sure this update was thought out very well. o_O



    Me thinks it may be a little OP.

    Oh well time to test a ship with "less blocks" and see what happens and then see if I can nerf it. GJ fellas. :rolleyes:

    At least piss off the explosive effect. Why is a sun explosive?

    Seriously though this is stupid, why would you buff suns before adding some defense against them? And why are smaller more fragile ships better defended than heavily armoured and shielded larger ships?

    Small fighter same sun, game glitched and I actually ended up in the sun when the damage started, took me longer to get away than my 500m frigate and it's barely damaged aesthetically. I could of pulled up and had a tea party in the time it would of taken to get killed in this little ship.

    Time to find some code and edit teh gameconfig.xml me thinks. New launcher seriously needs a feature voting option added.

    This is something that's been requested for aslong as suns have been ingame. It's jsut going to take time to get it balanced.

    And why is big ships getting hurt more by suns a bad thing? Gives small ships a viable escape if they're being jump inhib'd

    Although it does give small ships an edge it's completely unrealistic. IMO nothing should be able to withstand prolonged contact with a sun, but especially not fighters. It'd be more realistic to make supergiant ships stand it a little longer, but not much. Well have to wait two weeks and see how they defend ships. Although I for one want planets that damage ships on reentry, less your shuttles have heat shields.

    Starmade has never aimed for realism. At all. We build ships with eternal power sources out of lego...

    Realism is not a valid critique against this game, you want closer to reality, go play SE :P

    Still it feels wrong that a much larger mass should become saturated faster, and thus start to suffer damage earlier, than a small mass. If anything, it should depend on the surface-to-mass ratio (larger surface=faster heat energy uptake, more mass=higher heat energy buffer), and that would usually work out in favour of larger entities.
    Try tossing a twig and a log into a camp fire, and see which one catches fire first and which is consumed faster.

    Your larger ship blocks more of the suns light and is thus impacted more than smaller vessels. Best explanation I can think of.

    Hopefully rather than explosive damage the sun will at one point be more like a shaver and peel off layers of hull. >: D

    What if your ship is a kilometer long stick pointed directly at the sun? exposed area is extremely small(in some cases just 1x1 blocks).

    Pretty cool.. personally i still think that the ability to fly through a star is a bit stupid. Maybe make it so that when a block touches the surface of a star it melts instantly, or something to that effect?

    They do need to do more calculations as to that kind of deal yeah.

    I'm confused. You thought you guys should be flying into suns, without protection and could make it out okay? :D It's a burning ball of plasma so hot it is fusing atoms because of it's shear heat and pressure! Just avoid stars until the heat protection schema mentioned is a thing.

    One thing I'm worried about is drones being EXTREMELY OVERPOWERED once we get fleet control. Seriously, why would I fly a big ship when it only takes ~30% of its mass in drones to kill it?

    Turrets get confused by an overabundance of targets and are largely ineffective. Swarm missiles tend to go after a single target, meaning you generally have difficulty taking drones out with swarmers.

    Yeah, just have a second drone swarm to smash into the first one. That sounds great. And laggy.

    As Lecic said, Turrets can't figure out how to aim at that number of targets because they keep trying to shoot at things they are unable to turn to face in the first place and having too many ships might crash the server by lag. XD

    That said unlike him I'm likely to go the fleet route but I'm more worried about the lag that number of ships is going to cause that anything.

    Requested by who exactly? I've not seen anyone request exploding suns, see plenty of players regularly get killed by them and lose their ships as they are or should I say were.
    Every player I have actually spoken to since patch came out thinks it's a terrible addition to something that was not broken. More than any forum posts I have seen.
    Schine is starting to become well known for this kind of thing and it's not earning them any brownie points with many potential and current gamers.

    Serious Dev "Hey guys this is broken should we fix it and maybe add some gameplay?"
    Troll Dev "Nah let's make suns explode big ships because purple and a couple of forum dwellers"
    Serious Dev "Maybe we should add heat shields at the same time or give blocks a heat resistence rating or something that makes sense?"
    Troll Dev "LOL Why? That can wait a few more months surely."
    Serious Dev "But what about the 50 people playing the game right now online? They might not like it."

    And so people who have put effort and time into their ships should be penalised because why exactly?
    Thought the thruster rebalance and over drive were for that. Jump disabled? Well then use your 1000m/s small ship to run away from that stuck at 200m/s Destroyer.

    It's not about realism of course because it's a game to state the obvious, it's about logic and a bit of common sense.
    An intergalactic space travelling species would surely make their Larger more expensive to produce ships tougher.

    Seriously, does it really take Schine having to release everything to the public first before they balance it or realise it might not be a good idea?

    Oh well there's always that 5 second warning I guess that let's you know it's too late to turn back now and your ships screwed. That's a help at least.
    Sorry but small ships escape route? That just sounds like a cop out and a pretty lame one at that.

    Gah I love this game to death, can see what it could be and want to praise Schine to the moon and back, but fuck me they really make it hard to do so sometimes.

    My guess is that they are making sun damage scale with ship size so that heat shields are just as effective at any ship size. So if 5% ship is heat shields you survive one minute near sun. 10% of ship is heat shields, you survive 2 minutes near sun.
