It adds a new dimension to faction warefare. CAPTURE. Disable and board a ship after getting the captain to surrender. The ship is many times more valuable as a new fleet asset or salvage then as a disintegrating hulk.
    1: destroy the turrets
    2: eliminate all support
3: capture or destroy the escorts
The captain can either surrender or sit there and try to turtle until help arrives. Just bribe him to not turtle, have him de-fac it and send him home. You have a shiney new ship that needs some new turrets and you gave the enemy a proper black eye with a patch to match.
If a captain of a ship that is in evident danger of capture has the time for the options to turtle or surrender, why would they not just advanced build mode + all symmetries + max build area and recover as much of the ship as possible until cored?
I suppose loss of inventory on death might be relevant but denying your enemy the resources would be still a small victory.

Well, if advanced build mode becomes something doable only outside of combat or in something like a shipyard, then this wouldn't be a possibility.

I find the verb 'turtling' far more amusing than I ought to.

WarSong Lecic That sounds good, but does'nt relate to the problem that we are facing and discussing in this thread -> to have 8 hours of pure hard work in order to get 15 minutes of fun.

Also, why should I risk this capital ship for being captured anyway ? So much for all blood given.
I don't want to have 8 hours of work, for I already have got real life to force me doing so.

Thinking better, I now say that reviewing the crafting system will make things better. Make blocks cost less capsules. Perhaps it will make some planets survive the intense destruction we are facing today (remember that unlike some people stated here, planets does not re-spawn)

People really can't face the facts that building a huge, server dominating ship with ease is a thing of the past. It's supposed to be an accomplishment for a faction that's worked hard and can defend their powerful weapon, not something every faction has just lying around.'

Anyway, I think mantle extractors and asteroids having a higher ore density is a better idea than decreasing resource costs.

I'd prefer decreased resource costs, which would make every resource item more valuable... Results in more incentive to fight for resources. But mantle extractors should be a thing. As should Rammet/Sertise(?) supply.

Unless you are SP mode big ships are just not going to be economical. Always better to live to fight another day anyhow. I'd rather give up a big ship now and get some help either stealing it or winning it back later. There are other options. Self destruct. Kill the raiding party with internal defenses. Meet them one for one in fighter. Take over a turret. Send a distress signal. Appeal to their better nature. FUS RO DAH. Pray the Breadnought shows up to save you. Aim for the thermal exhaust port just below the main port. Get in a lucky missile shot. Call for your base NPCs to back you up. Calculate the jump to hyperspace. Jump a pulsar. Send out marines to take over one of their ships and fight back. Hack their facebook and post compromising photos. Use the force. Use the schwartz. Summon the banners. Retrieve the arkenstone. Deploy 'the bomb'. Attack their city in their own shuttle. Brain wash one of your own agent it infiltrate them but watch out it doesn't backfire. Find the sword of evil's bane. Feed them those little potatoes your mother likes. Baweepgranaweepninnibong. Simply walk into mordor. Make booby traps from a rubberband a paperclip and some chewing gum. Dial home. Make it a kodak moment. Offer a coke and a smile. Kill bart simpson. Call microsoft tech support. Use a sham-wow.

    I could go on. But I won't.
    You are welcome.

This change won't remotely kill the game as some people here think it will...

There are several servers who have used this system for more than a year without a problem

In fact, the only thing it will change is that smaller, "smarter" ships will become more common than titans (which can no longer be bought after a few hours of playing)

You are the type of person I was complaining about. Your free titans are boring and lame.

Seriously, you complaining about "limiting creativity" is stupid. Go play on a build server or admin spawn singleplayer if you want, edit the server cfg so you don't need to pay attention to this. Don't crap on actual gameplay because the server you play on suddenly doesn't have instant gratification.
you haven't seen any of my ships, so how can you make assumptions like that, and actually the majority of my ships are only 300m lond

This is one of the problems of open development, you [as a dev] may have a clear vision of the project, and you'll let alpha testers a lot of freedom until some other systems are created. You need to test extreme cases, and then you let people create big ships easily to test performance. But slowly you'll get closer to the original idea, and some of those helpers disappear, and then, people cry because they've conceived a vision of the game that changed, and usually, some things get harder to get.

As a developer myself I want to support those changes that may seem the game is getting worse. Please schema go with your vision, read the forums, but don't obsess with the negative feedback. I think a lot of times the people who think it's ok do not write as usually as the people who complain, and it may portrait a wrong image of what the community thinks as a whole.

On the other hand, as the dev team stated here and there, StarMade is planned more as an framework than a game. If I'm right, the game will be configurable to the point that shall let people create "creative", "fast build combat a lot" or "space simulator" servers, allowing server administrators to design the experience for his community.

On a final point, I don't understand why people think that it's logic that a single person can build and drive a titan. But then, I realize that's not the problem. I think the major problem is that if is as easy to drive and play with a 100m ship or a titan, people will use Titans, because they'll inflict more damage. On the other hand, meanwhile the only thing you can do is drive and shoot, there's no reason to team up with other players.

Because of that I think the game needs that major ships will need to be used by more than a player. Maybe one person will drive the ship, but he will not been able de use the weapon system, and for weapon system, I don't talk about shooting from a turret, I imagine a 3st person view where the gunner will be able to select turrent and assign targets dynamically like in an RTS to maximize the effectiveness. More, I imagine a shield manager that will see the ship in a cenital perspective and will be able to re-assign power between weapons and shields and decide to enforce the front ones downing the capacity of the rear ones.

All this will be managed by AI if you drive the ship alone, but it'll be worse than a person, but will let small and mid ships to be used leting the default system management to this AI, for example, even shield/weapon power distribution or even front-rear shields, turrets will point to the nearest ship, and so on.
