Make sure you have the latest version installed, versions previous to that would break if normal mapping was turned off.i ran into a Critical error when switching from my "Filming settings"(1280x720 rez, shading/normal bump mapping on, light quality:32, procedural background: 4096, default texture: 256) to my "Building settings" (1600x900 rez, shading/normal bump mapping off, lighting quality: 32, procedural background: 1024, default texture: 64)
