The Star Axis suffered a major setback yesterday. The deep space exploration command ship; Axis-1 was shot down by pirate gunships while on a diplomatic mission in Iron Dragon Territory. A squadron of 12-15 pirate ships assaulted the Iron Dragon base and opened fire on Axis-1; disabling its shields. Axis-1 took evasive action and began to engage the enemy gunships to buy time for the Dragon defenses to respond but was eventually overcome by the sheer numbers within the attacking force. The crew of Axis-1 managed to abandon ship and escape before being rescued by Iron Dragon forces at a nearby shop.

In response to this incident, Axis command has approved a new military spending plan. The Axis-1 has been rebuilt and plans are underway to upgrade the ship's weapons, engines and armor. Production of advanced armor has accelerated and new escort fighter craft have been made available for tasking. There are even reports that a new advanced deep space stealth reconnaissance aircraft has begun operations in neighboring sectors. With their shipyard fully operational, it won't belong before the Axis develops an effective counter to the threat of piracy.

    Well... Crap...:(

Do you have a faction home yet? You're welcome to dock at my station; the docking pylons have permission modules on them. Would that protect against theft?

    Good Afternoon everyone,

First, I'd just like to offer thanks to to development team; they have effectively reserved most of my spare time for the foreseeable future. I've been playing this game in sandbox mode; as I am more interested in the creative aspect of StarMade than PVP/PVE. A lot of you have created some truly awe-inspiring designs so I figure I'll add to all this creative madness with some of my designs.

The United Star Axis is a faction I created with a storyline that predates StarMade. It is group comprised primarily of fictitious civilian defense research contractors from the 22nd century. While I've dabbled in capital ships in the past, I think smaller agile ships fit the Axis much better. It gives them a fun 'under-dog' (and underestimated) quality.

The following is a brief history of my design process. Questions, comments and critiques are welcome...

Former generation low-orbital shipyard. The ship surrounded by the purple box is the prototype for all my more 'modern' designs.

    An intermediate generation starbase

The Axis Command System shown with ASC Challenger and ASC Odyssey

ASC Challenger with ventral drop fighter bays. Rails and logic are my new best friends.

Speaking of rails; how about a comically over-sized railgun? This weapon will blow a 3 meter wide hole through a target and penetrate at least 3 meters of advanced armor before shredding the internal systems. The 'coils' on the side of the barrel flash when the weapon fires. Logic and rails are used to move the gun sideways to allow the drop-fighters to launch.

I don't usually build capital ships, but when I do...
Before weapons and power were rebalanced, this big fellow could destroy a planet using either sustained cannon fire or a 'world-ender device'. Time for a refit. The Axis NEEDS an ace like this up its sleeve.
The improvements are real, holy shit xD

Deep within the Aetherion galaxy, the Star Axis has begun the final testing phases of a new deep space transport ship.

This ship will carry up to 3 detachable utility modules for tasks like mining, mobile repair and passenger/cargo transport. With a massive power grid for its size and more than triple the shielding of the smaller escort class, this craft will have a much higher survivability rating, should it encounter hostile craft. The next phase will include construction of utility modules and defensive armament. Stay tuned for more updates...

    Breaking News!!!

A brief military engagement ensued between Quantum Physics Gaming and the combined forces of The United Star Axis, The Ascension Armada and Everlasting Justice. Quantum Physics has been terrorizing the Aetherion Galaxy with its massive capital ships; attacking spacecraft and destroying planets. Today, the rogue organization assaulted (for the second time) the Star Axis home world. Home base protection proved effective in minimizing the threat but allied units operating in the area were soon targeted. After a failed planetary bombardment and a small skirmish with a shuttle, the Everlasting Justice faction returned with a heavy assault ship to challenge the invader. The Everlasting Justice ship made a brave attempt but was quickly torn apart by enemy cannon fire.

Suddenly, in a strange twist of fate, a commando detachment from the Ascension Armada snuck aboard the Quantum Physics capital ship using a tiny cloaked scout ship. Meanwhile, Axis command scanned the enemy ship for weaknesses before joining the boarding operation. Sensing defeat, the Quantum Physics commander, sabotaged his ship and took his own life to avoid capture. This is a day that will be long remembered; the day brain, triumphed over brawn.

A military, financial aid disbursement and construction of a memorial has been ordered to honor the hero of Everlasting Justice, who's sacrifice made this victory possible.

That was SkyLordLuke's Higeran Battle Cruiser before the guy tried to scuttle the ship while we were boarding it. Hopefully, that will teach him not to start trouble in my star system again.

It was an impressive sight to see but Quantum Physics is going to have a serious problem when I start building larger craft. I plan to go full DARPA on him and leave him wondering if capital ships are really worth the added expense. I'm interested to see how this war plays out.

Ahh so it was just a CC build. Sounds about right for server warlords.

The Axis command ship ASC Challenger particpated in a 2 day joint military operation with long time ally; the mysterious Lord Anubis Rex.

    ASC Challanger.jpg
The allied starship was technically classified as a science vessel but a preliminary scan revealed that the craft had very similar armament and defensive capabilities to Challenger; with the the science ship having heavier armor and challenger sporting a wider variety of weapons.

    Jon and mike.jpg
    Jon1.jpg
The task force was sent to eliminate 3 pirate stations and clear the area of all hostile forces. The first 2 targets were heavily shielded but lightly armed; relying on reinforcements for defense. In the first assault, Challenger sustained light damage to some of her turrets but was able to make repairs in the field after elimination of the target.

For the second assault, Anubis Rex fitted his ship with turrets provided by the Axis; giving it a defensive boost. During the battle, 2 fighters from Challenger were lost. The pilots were able to eject and were rescued by challenger. Only one of the disabled craft were recovered.

In the final assault, Anubis Rex's science ship was struck by heavy ion weaponry and sustained damage to her thrusters and armor immediately following shield failure. Challenger was able to cover her retreat while evading enemy fire and disabling the station's turrets. With Dr. Whammy having previously studied the schematics of this class of station, Challenger was able to locate and destroy the station's faction module; severing the station's communications with its reinforcements. Allied forces have encountered very limited resistance since the victory.

I've just designed a new multipurpose transport ship. I think I'll call it...

Voyager Class - Light combat utility craft.

Combined Mass: 2,012 (approximately 1,000 when unloaded)
    Power grid: 1,137,000 (489,000 charge/s)
    Shield: 112,000 (1023 charge/s)
    Thrust 2,550

    Armament
    - Auto Cannons
    - Guided Missiles
    - Defensive turrets
    - Point defense units.

    Special Equipment
    - Automated salvager attachment
    - Mobile Warehouse module (Sorts items and provides cargo storage)
    - Jump Drive
    - Jump inhibitor
    - Transporters (ship does not drop its shields for transport)

    Combat Utility with escort.jpg
Voyager class alongside it's predecessor; the Odyssey class. The voyager is a little slower but hits a lot harder and carries double the cargo. This ship is an excellent intermediate craft between an Odyssey and the larger Pathfinder Class.

    Combat Utility 1.jpg
Voyager deploying a mobile warehouse module. It stores and sorts anything you put in it. This unit is a must have with the new cargo update.

    Combat Utility 2.jpg
The Automated Salvager. Uses logic to fire forward continuously; allowing the pilot to 'sweep' asteroids. The module is mobile and has basic cargo storage.

    Combat Utility 3.jpg
    And the obligatory engine porn...

Thanks guys. I suppose I couldn't stay away for long.

    Now for some defensive hardware.

    Guardian Defense Turret.

This unit has multiple independent missile systems with emphasis on inflicting high damage at extreme range. This was originally meant to be installed on a station but seems to fit well in the planetary defense roll.

4x long range heavy missile units. 729,000 damage per missile. 4 independent launch systems for defensive redundancy and power efficiency.
1x short range system. 18,000 Damage per missile; 2 missiles per salvo
1x scatter-fire system. 40 Damage x 12 rockets. Fires small caliber dummy rockets to confuse enemy AMS turrets.

Requires vast amounts of power to operate.

    SAM sites.jpg

EDIT: Holy crap this thing works!!! Just got attacked by a LOT of NPC pirates and this thing is holding it down like a boss...
