Let's briggity-break it down.
Q: What features have the highest development priority at the time of answering this Q&A?SCHEMA: "HUD/GUI, then the docking system with rails."
Q: Are there any plans to add FPS limiters lower than 60 FPS for use with old machines and laptops?
SCHEMA: "Yes, there will be 30fps in the next version (other settings might cause screen tearing)"
Q: Will we ever get a real third-person ship view?
SCHEMA: "A better 3rd person is definitely planned; not the highest priority at the moment."
Q: Do You plan sound/music update or some sort of competition/collaboration in the near future?
SCHEMA: "I definitely do want some more sound work soon. For music I will announce when that is going to come for every musician to send us music for the game, and then we will decide."
Q: Why did you choose to make this game in Java? Was it simply personal preference, is Java well suited to certain features for Star Made, or are there some other reasons?
SCHEMA: "I was most familiar in java, but also a game of this scale (around 300k lines of code excluding empty/comments) is a lot better to manage in an environment like java. Yes, c++ would be technically faster, but at that scale, benchmarks that compare 2 small parts of codes aren't as telling anymore. It would be way harder to write and maintain optimized code at that scale, so the difference would probably be smaller than a lot of people think."
Q: Are there any plans for connected texture support or metadata support like that of Minecraft in the near/distant future?
SCHEMA: "Connected textures are going to be a thing. I don't really know the metadata system of Minecraft though, so I can't really tell you if something like this will come."
Q: Will we be able to override sections of the game in the modding API?
SCHEMA: "Ah, the modding API is already in works, although currently a little less worked on because of the high priority of GUI/HUD..."
Q: Is the Minelayer dead? Or is it just very low priority right now? Similarly, are there any other ideas for new weapons up in the air for the future?
SCHEMA: "Minelayer is not dead. We are very happy with how the weapon combination system works in general. We could extend it right now, but in my opinion it is better to first implement other balance changing features like ship HP (which we now have a concrete and detailed concept for)."
