I think for this first election we'll try with just the applications, and gauge from there perhaps public debates for the future. This is a first for us so there's no real formula, so we'll start simple and go from there with what works and what doesn't.
To answer some confusion, the council page talks about the number of applicants you can vote for will be dependent on the number of applicants means that we're planning on actually going to allow ranking of your votes similar to an actual ballot, if we have more applicants then we'll expand the number of rankings you can have. E.g. If there's 10 applicants you can vote for your top 3, so 1, 2, 3. If there's 20 applicants it might be expanded to top 5 and so on.
Hope that clears that up.
Also I encourage those voting to pick people you think would represent the community well. Read their applications once they are released and pick who you think would suit it.
Also there was some confusion over applications approvals by Schine. Basically if you have a proven track record of abuse and a long line of moderation points against you we just won't put your name in the ballot. It's basically just an admin check to say is this person's previous history on the forum dictating that all they're going to do is try and cause trouble and if so they're application won't go through. I don't see that often happening and from reading through the current applications I haven't seen anyone that might fit that description, but it's important to note in the whole process that that is a part of it.
Thanks to everyone who has applied so far.
