Knowing how the things are here, I fear that won't end well... if you know what I mean...
If it were that bad as you imply then the council idea is doomed from the start, better get it out there in a civilized manner before things get worse because of an contest election that is bound to incite drama.

im not sure what an open debate would accomplish. If I understand the Council's job properly, all we're doing is applying to be is the Officially sanctioned PR team.

It would be our job to relay the community's concerns to Schine and conversely relay Schines intentions to the community.

Its not like we're all gonna jump in and help schema with coding the game.

Remembering how bad the last few major discussions (e.g. at every bigger balance change) went and after reading this i think it would be really sad if this is going to regress to a mere popularity contest.
There is no denying that there are quite some conflicts laying dormant in the community that are coming up every other discussion, i would like to hope that we can discuss these things in a constructive way before things get the chance to get ugly again.

so a public debate would act as kind of a character assessment?. I'm down with that but ultimately schine has the final say in everything. That CoC makes it petty clear that council members are NOT members of the Schine team and any member who goes around rubbing their title in peoples faces will get thrown out. We are only to act as an intermediary between the devs and the community at large.

in that light our reputations in community are the only thing we can bank on. From my understanding no member has to be an "expert" in one or more aspects of the game in order to be on the council. It helps but not required.

So in a sense the only thing that people should be on the look out for is:
    1. If the applicant has a good head on his shoulders
    2. Is a D*ck/A#@hole
I trust we're all smart enough to know who the trolls and jerks are here in order to make the right choices. And if not Schines got our back.

    You just downvoted him :p

Anyhow, may the ones with the most votes win.

Everything is open to interpretation, however I will not smear anyone with playground politics.

I wish everyone the best of luck in this venture.

While a public debate may be in some people's interests, some applicants may not have access to the equipment needed, leaving them at an unfair disadvantage (mic, internet, camera, etc). (Notwithstanding timezone problems)

Popularity contest or not, every applicant is likely/should be entering into the running because they want to help the community and schine both to make this the best game possible. I simply don't see someone applying at all if they're not dedicated to that purpose, and I DO see them failing to be elected or being removed if they're not keeping that dedication in mind. Read the council code of conduct, its pretty straightforward.

I applied because I have been doing this Role for a long time already and will continue regardless of the outcome.

Well... after witnessing the very recent "discussion" in chat and how badly it ended i renew my call for a more constructive debate.

Due to the "discussions" in chat, I am withdrawing my application. I will not risk working with people who will not work with others. Good day to you all.

I think for this first election we'll try with just the applications, and gauge from there perhaps public debates for the future. This is a first for us so there's no real formula, so we'll start simple and go from there with what works and what doesn't.

To answer some confusion, the council page talks about the number of applicants you can vote for will be dependent on the number of applicants means that we're planning on actually going to allow ranking of your votes similar to an actual ballot, if we have more applicants then we'll expand the number of rankings you can have. E.g. If there's 10 applicants you can vote for your top 3, so 1, 2, 3. If there's 20 applicants it might be expanded to top 5 and so on.

    Hope that clears that up.

Also I encourage those voting to pick people you think would represent the community well. Read their applications once they are released and pick who you think would suit it.

Also there was some confusion over applications approvals by Schine. Basically if you have a proven track record of abuse and a long line of moderation points against you we just won't put your name in the ballot. It's basically just an admin check to say is this person's previous history on the forum dictating that all they're going to do is try and cause trouble and if so they're application won't go through. I don't see that often happening and from reading through the current applications I haven't seen anyone that might fit that description, but it's important to note in the whole process that that is a part of it.

Thanks to everyone who has applied so far.

This commataless sentence confused me much more than the page would ever have confused me, if it would have confused me.

Yeah that was me at 2am trying to write it on my phone while falling asleep. Lol.

    The council page says
The number of names on the ballot will determine how many names citizens will be able to vote for in the poll.

Essentially what we're saying is that you will be able to number your votes in order of highest preference to lowest preference, but you won't be numbering every single applicant. The number of names that you can vote and number for will always be a percentage of the total number of names on the ballot. So if we have 10 applicants on the ballot, we may say give us a 1st 2nd and 3rd preference on your voting. So top 3. If we have 40 applicants it might be top 5 or top 10, so the number of people you can essentially vote for, increases. This makes more sense for us as if you were to vote on just one person and that's it, then there'd be a lot more favoritism and also would be difficult for us to fill the whole council if say everyone voted for one person and everyone else got 0.

what I find easy to determine, but then again, I excell at logic extremely and like to poke holes into rulesets.
