Recognized Cloaking should be an effect, or at the very least something like it

Considering the current cloaking system, what would you want?

As many have said, cloaking needs to be changed in some way or another, and I believe many of you will believe me when it comes to this. All of us have wanted at least once to design a ship that could cloak and still be capable for combat, and while the current system is alright many believe that it is time for a change. The system that I would request would implement cloak into a format already used by the effect blocks. In this post, I will outline the benefits and weaknesses that this system would offer, and hope that it gets recognized by the counsel.

The system that I am proposing is changing the cloaking system we currently have, into a more accessible format that wouldn't let the user become over powered. This effect would work like any other effect would for the game meaning that your ship would require a certain amount to reach maximum efficiency. Like all of the other effects, it would work in a passive, and offensive system type. The passive effect would run off a mass based system, meaning that the heavier the ship the more effect required to make it more effective, this would prevent titans from being able to cloak unless they were entirely devoted to cloaking. The passive effect would work in a way that if your ship got a percentage of cloaking, your ship would become that percentage transparent, making it partially invisible. What I mean by that is when you hit a certain number of cloaking effectiveness, you would gain an additional bonus, think of it this way, 0%-20% only partial cloaking, easily disrupted by scanners 20%-40% removal of your ships icon on the minimap when not in motion, as well as additional partial cloaking 40%-99% additional cloaking effect, higher cloak speed, and more resistance to scanners 100% ship max speed = cloaking max speed, completely transparent, and additional scanner resistance. By having cloak working in a system like that, it would allow the user to be able to cloak, keep their power, and still not be too overpowered. An additional thing to think about is when cloaking is enabled shields drop allowing anyone who suspects a cloaked ship is nearby the ability to defeat them with some of the cloaking weapon systems

Now for the Cloaks offensive systems, the way something like this would work is that when you link a cloaking module to a weapon, you would get some sort of stealth bonus to the weapon. Before you ask, no, you will still lose cloak when firing, fired upon, maybe even during collisions or using your JumpDrive. but these stealth weapons would add systems like these:

Beam: no damage indicators on the person being hit, and the beam being transparent based on the percentage of the cloaking effect. also heavy damage nerf while using the cloak effect

AMC: No sound or damage indication on the receiving end, damage nerf

Missile: based on the percentage, have a chance to be undetected by anti-missile arrays, severe damage nerf when in use, also when at 100% effectiveness, the ability to locate cloaked ships and fire at them without the use of a scanner

Pulse: When fired would create a location indicator only visible to the person who fired it when using the right mouse button, when the left mouse button is used, the pulse would appear in that location, doing damage to whatever it hits, also Insane damage nerf and despawn in 30 seconds, only one "mine" per pulse module, also uses up a gratuitously large amount of power when used and doesn't break cloak until the pulse is activated, upon a scanner locating it, the ship it fired from would lose cloak,

These weapon effects would allow the user new ways to tackle stealth missions with relatively stealth tactics that wouldn't leave users who use the cloaking systems on their ships completely invulnerable to attacks

One might think that a system such as this would allow anyone to become too OP on servers as that is the case with the current cloaking system, but this system adequately nerfs itself and the ability of cloaked ships to an extent where yes, you can now have a relatively large cloaked ship, but that ship must have enough cloaking effect per mass unit to become a completely stealth ship, and even at that, the new Stealth Missile combo can counter any stealth ships, allowing for new combat mechanics to spice up the current relatively bland system we currently have

Thank you for reading my suggestion, but it is just that, a suggestion, Schine can do whatever they want with cloaking, I just think that this system would be a good solution to an old problem.

Cloaking missiles bypassing AMS is a neat idea. Not too sure about the others, though.

Personally, I'd give cloaked weapons a bonus similar to Overdrive, except instead of having 6x power cost, it would only work while cloaked.

while many of us would love to have the ability to shoot while cloaked, the problem behind that is, it is insanely OP to be shooting at an AI or even another players base without them having any idea where you are. Having missiles be able to bypass anti missile systems makes sense for a stealth weapon boost, and it doesn't give the user some insane edge over those who don't use cloak

I never said it wouldn't decloak you. It WOULD decloak you, making cloak weapons primarily alpha hit-and-run style weapons.

Could you explain that a little better? I don't really understand the implications of what you are suggesting, and try to remember, these are just suggestions, the devs can do what they want to the game. Try not to be so defensive of your ideas

Or making weapons temporarily making your ship show up on the nav screen. Total uncloaking is a bit to harsh, because then you can't really be offensive in any way. The ship is already nerfed bc of the cloaking requirements. +1 on the cloaking as an effect though. I like it. <3 the being stationary cloaks you on one of the levels.

Firing a weapon should always decloak you 100% of the time with no exceptions tbh. I agree that cloaking should function as an effect though, possibly a higher percentage of cloak modules on a ship could lower the "recovery" time for cloaking, or possibly allow you to get closer to another ship etc.

As for weapon effect combos I agree with Lecic really, other than bypassing AMS turrets those suggestions sound a little gimmicky. I like the idea of a first strike only overdrive system, trading power cost for only being usable while stealthed. That has potentially interesting tactical applications and considerations for design.

What I'm saying is that cloak effect weapons get a large damage boost if you fire them while cloaked. They still uncloak you after you fire, though. This makes the primary weapons of cloaker ships a high alpha striker, stealth bomber, hit-and-run, etc, type weapon.

I like this idea. This means that cloakers would have to specialise instead of just sticking a single block down, and would finally allow for larger, better-looking cloaking ships with better systems and actual armour.
the ability to locate cloaked ships and fire at them without the use of a scanner
Absolutely yes to that one. Reminds me of the improvised emission-seeking torpedo at the end of Star Trek VI.

To be honest, all of the other ideas weren't very well thought out, I just knew I would need some sort of example, I just took it as Lecic wanting weapons to be used while cloaked, which is waaaaay to op, but having alpha weapons that would only work while in stealth I think needs to have some kind of "stealth" aspect to it, maybe something like, you would lose less and less of your transparency the more the weapon effect is, making it so that if you wanted stealth weaponry, it would be able to not completely de-cloak you, but significantly lower your current transparency

Glad you like the idea, I figured if more ships were to be able to be cloaked, even with the cloaking limitations I figured there would need to be some sort of balance
