      Should Factories/Industry be More Challenging?

That's kind of the general idea I'm going for. Not that specifically, but something along those lines.

      Should Factories/Industry be More Challenging?

First of all, we need materials of varying rarity from different sources. Ratio of common to rare materials is one option. Ratio of power consumed to material efficiency is another. Manufacturing would be a nice place to re-introduce the wonky geometric puzzle-type building that current power...

      The Importance of Planets

There was a thread about planet-wide shielding systems at one point. I think it was one I wrote.

      Interior functions, no forced design.

It will likely be semi-fluid and able to be reshaped. We don't even know if Schine is still considering such a solution at all.

      Should Factories/Industry be More Challenging?

Depth, obviously. Complexity is merely a side effect of depth and shouldn't be overdone, at least in this game. I'd like to see tradeoffs and choices, not just "hmm.... big factory or mammoth-humping huge factory?"

      Should Factories/Industry be More Challenging?

Factories are very simple, straightforward, and not particularly annoying. Unfortunately, they're also a little bland. In the past, this simple approach was necessary because factories were the only reasonable way to get lots of resources. Now that there's an actual economy where you can order...

      Starmade just got 0wned...

Oh no... Unity? For that kind of game? I doubt they'll ever be able to have 1000m-long ships.

      The Importance of Planets

At first it sounded like planets were going to be very disappointing indeed, but I think you may have misunderstood my initial post. I exaggerated a bit when I called planets the "other half" of what Starmade can be. That doesn't mean you have to code twice as much stuff. It just means extending...

      3 is the magic number

iflychat is a substance known to the state of Starmade Dock to cause cancer and other birth defects.

      What the heck...

One time I built an AMS turret that shot itself off its base any time it saw a missile.

      The Importance of Planets

That might be going too far with the division between planets and space. The philosophy of making everything perfectly seamless (including weapons fire on and off planet) demands a solution that makes planets "things in space." However, that doesn't mean they have to stay the way they are now...

      The Importance of Planets

Planets will add the most to the game if they can be their own "world within a world" that has enough to do for players to base their experience literally around (or entirely on) a single planet if desired. With promises of flora and fauna systems, NPC populations, and (probably) larger planets...

      Starmade just got 0wned...

Take this video with a grain of salt. These sorts of trailers normally make a game look better and more complete than they actually are. It looks like they use more modeled parts and focused more on graphics early in development than Starmade. Have you played this other game yet?

      How to cure logic lagg

...Which is why this or something similar should be slated for somewhere down the line, not thrown out. If each interlinked logic system is one file, just disable that file when one of the linked blocks is damaged. Cite power surges, etc. for scifi reasoning. Re-compile when the ship core...

      You could learn from Notch

That's a pretty accurate statement, although the Minecraft world is not completely loaded all the time and a space station is even if it isn't all rendered client side.

Expendable Overdrive, Give us something to fight over.

The stuff would have to be relatively rare, and not just a mixable resource like everything else because that's just boring! Perhaps it could be slowly extracted from special "nodes" that have a limited output.

      You could learn from Notch

While this might sound like a good observation at first glance (or not, in the case of many folks), there is a glaring problem. Minecraft's player-vs-player combat is not largely affected by the contraptions people build. In Minecraft, we fight with swords, bows, armor, and enchanted versions of...

      StarMade Surprise Update

It certainly sounds like you're working on it the right way around IMO. If the idea is as innovative as you make it sound, forming the game AROUND the new system rather than trying to force the new system to do this or that will almost certainly yield better results. Size really is secondary...
