I like the general classification system, but I would like to see a standardized system just for military vessels like the Royal Navy used for Ships of the Line. These ratings were based mainly on amount of naval cannons mounted in carriages.
Example (classification during Napoleonic Wars...
I think in one of the dev Q&A Calbiri said something about adding more personal equipment. It wouldn't surprise me if we get NVG (night vision goggles), flashlights, personal shields, tricorders, armor, etc. at some point.
Correct me if I am wrong but it seems like the to do list on the old website said something about a future "Survival" mode where you start out on a planet and progress into space. I think different gameplay modes are a planned feature. This will really be a cool feature when there are hostile...
The velocity of any object IRL is directly related to the following formula:
Force = Mass x acceleration or acceleration = Force/Mass
If you increase the Force (thrust) in direct proportion to the Mass the acceleration is the same.
Huge ships can easily accelerate faster than fighters given...
Check your turret and make sure you cannon computer is pointing forward. I had a cannon computer in backward and I wondered why my cannon wouldn't shoot.
I have used cannons and beams for anti missile turrets and they both work but I like the cannon/cannon (rapid fire) combo best. It can be...
My strategy:
1) Buy a faction module and plant it on an abandoned base or planet first thing.
2) Create faction and claim the system for the 12x mining bonus.
3) Build a small salvager ship with starting stuff, or start mining asteroids with personal salvager.
4) Build and place a factory...
I agree with Viridis on this one. I think if you are going to get a bunch of loot from pirates you should at least need to go into the remains of the pirate vessel. If you totally obliterated the pirate vessel and destroyed the storage, well tough luck. I think getting loot from pirates it...
Would you still be able to see ships in space from the planet surface? I like how you can see your ship above the planets surface. Nothing like a large battle cruiser hovering over your base to make you nervous.
I like the planets the size they are although they are currently really slow to...
Adding fuel would make the game more CHALLENGING, but probably also more ANNOYING. I think there are ways to improve the challenge without being more annoying. It would make a good option for those who want it though.
I don't want to have to make a bunch of pirate ships to fight or wade through a bunch of downloads. I like seeing others creations for the first time in game (it is much more of a surprise). If I just run into ships I built myself there is no surprise. I already know what they look like and...
I really liked the turning mechanism in freelancer, it allowed for great smooth turning. Being able to make long turns without moving the mouse was really nice. Sometimes remembering to turn free turn on and off with the space bar was annoying (or holding down the RMB for free turn).
What I...
There needs to be a reason to enter such areas. The mission system will probably solve a lot of these problems by creating challenges equal to a players abilities. Perhaps specific enemies will spawn based on the mission parameters.
That's the way the game freelancer worked, the farther away you got from the starting system, the harder things got. I really think we need this to encourage development of bigger and better ships. Right now I have a decent (but not huge) ship, but as long as I keep my radar jammer turned on...
Ahh, I never considered going into build mode. Good idea, even if it feels like cheating. Perhaps a scanning system to find critical blocks would be a good addition in the future.
The problem with stations is they don't have a CORE to destroy. You need to find the faction module to neutralize the station and the faction module isn't always located by the radar diamond. That can be tough. Last night I had to almost totally obliterate the station just to find the faction...
My sector size is set to 5000, but I was hitting isanths at 15,000m so there must be a bug in the range. Also my weapons tab says my missiles have a range of 24,000. They are Missile/beam/explosive combo.
Aceface and Mr. V are exactly right. An Isanth Mb (Missile/beam) can fire a lock on missile with a range of over 20km. I lost 4 fighters to this because I wasn't careful about keeping my radar jammer turned on in unknown territory. Radar jamming is a MUST with ships that can't take a couple...
It makes sense thematically that hull and other structural pieces would be scrap. If you cut and drill a bunch of holes in a sheet of steel it can't be uncut or undrilled. It can only be sold for the scrap value. At the end of WWII the United States wheeled brand new B17 bombers directly from...
