Ok now that is a solution I would not have thought of. At all.
It's already better than fleet control would be (for the specific purpose of defensive antimissile ships). The ships do not move on their own, so they can't glitch away from you, and they will also jump with you naturally..
Technically you could just copypaste the entire corvette into slots some meters from the hull of your ship instead of docking them. Would be the same range of motion for the turrets, and the corvettes themselves would have mothership shieldding. Maybe include a plexdoor connection to the floating mass so that if BreakOff becomes an option some day, the structure will stay intact as long as it is shielded. If you go this route, you can also copypaste a small number of tiny, decorative fighter templates in relatively close distance to the main hangars, so that it always looks like a subset of the smaller docked craft is flying (deco-only) escort.
