It is good that you removed it because the disagree rating only rated a post negatively, instead of people actually saying what is wrong with it.

    Nope. A clock for you.

Reason? I think this is like primary school. Did you have an awesome, good or OK day? No miss, I had a SHIT day and I want a box that says at least 'bad'. Kind of like how we can now only have green pens and can't put crosses because it can hurt little Timmy's fee fees.

Clocks, ticks and rainbows will now be used until someone removes them too. Then we'll find a way because everyone on the internet are dicks. I want the right to be a dick dammit!

Searching for 'unhappy clock' brings some interesting pictures...

The problem has been fixed, after months of testing I have come to the conclusion that the disagree rating does not have a place on our forum.

A shame you can't disagree with this post... :p
Also remove the like and agree rating.

Else I will put a point everybody surely disagrees with into my post to get some replys :)

Maybe we need an "Invalid Argument" rating rather than "Disagree".

And a "Please use Formatting / Punctuation and remember translate.google.com" rather than just "Bad Spelling".
I think "Invalid Argument" is not that negative.

Is there a "key" anywhere explaining to "new members" for instance that optimistic doesn't = hopefulness or a strong belief in the success of such...instead it reflects a negative attitude towards another?

Agreed, honestly. If you can agree, you should be able to disagree. Honestly, I still stand by my original opinion. 4x4 grid.

Ignore it, report it, or even better, actually reply to the message explaining your disagreement.
Okay then. I could have simply hit "disagree" on this buuuuut...

So, I disagree with this, because I have to make posts now explaining why I disagree with stuff, instead of being able to just simply hit "disagree" and be done. There, that's my explanation.

Honestly, if you're going do something as ridiculous as making the rating system completely one-sided, we might as well not have a rating system at all. What is the purpose of the rating system? Obviously, it is to reflect how people feel about a person's specific post. What if the ratings don't allow for an accurate view of how people feel of that post? They have then voided their usefulness and have no purpose to exist. They can't reflect an accurate view of how people feel about an issue/post/thread when all opposition and disagreement is silenced and censored for the sake of "preventing inflammatory posts" or "because thuh negativity" other bullcrap reasons. Fighting happens on forums anyway.

In fact, removing the disagree rating may lead to an increase of negative posts toward people, because since they can't simply just say "you're wrong" or "you're an idiot" with a disagree rating, they instead have to go to the trouble of making an entire post so their voice is heard.
I'm sure we've all had moments where someone was saying something that was so stupid, you just didn't want to argue with them and be brought down to their level, but instead wanted the simple convenience of letting everyone know you think they're wrong.

Likewise, having the disagree rating also gives people an incentive to be nicer to other people, because they certainly don't want to have negative ratings! People that tend to be jerks on the forum would get more negative ratings, and given they're a legitimate forumer and not a troll, they would be compelled to behave better and make posts in tune with the general consensus in order to boost their positive ratings.

So yeah, tl;dr an accurate all-around rating system with both agree and disagree options allows for great incentives for people to post quality content rather than crap.

This isn't a baby daycare center. You can't turn this place into some retarded "lets be nice to everyone!!!" fantasy forum just by taking away a disagree rating. There will and must be negativity on this forum, whether or not anyone likes it. It's a fact of the internet. Like Toyota said, there needs to be negativity and arguing on this forum, and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional about the very nature of humanity.
This isn't North Korea, where everything publicly said has to be according to how it pleases the great leader. This is the free and open Internet. And we should be able to say and rate however we dang well please.

Also, since you are a forum mod and I have no intention of getting banned for flaming or something like that, let me make it clear my frustrations are not with you personally, Duke, but with what you have done with the rating system lately. My intention here is not to insult you but to show why the choices you have made are not the best in this matter. I would greatly appreciate it if you reinstated the disagree rating. Or if not, just get rid of the rating system entirely.

    Wait! Stop right now!
I just realised something. All those times people hit disagree now don't exist anymore.
I only have 6 neutral ratings!
And I'm pretty sure that that is going to change soon. How unfortunate.

Thank you, ten thousand times over. If someone's not mature enough to handle being disagreed with, they should be banned preemptively just for that... We don't want those kinds of people on our forum, or (gods forbid) in the game itself. Removing the Disagree button does nothing but pander to those people, the little five-year-olds and sheltered kids that know nothing about how people are and how the world works... And a few people who will now create massive spammy meme/GIANT RED ALL CAPS RAGE TEXT!1!!1!! posts to say that they disagree instead of clicking a simple button.

Apparently I have 2 clocks now.
How and where did I get them >_>

Anyway, internet arguments, I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing but the removal of the disagree rating will at the very least cause people who disagree to actually say something about it instead of just giving a clock or a rainbow... right?

Instead we should all just switch to font size 7 and use red letters and just say "Disagree"
    Example:
The problem has been fixed, after months of testing I have come to the conclusion that the disagree rating does not have a place on our forum.

A shame you can't disagree with this post... :p
    DISAGREE
(It also let's us explain our disagreement in the same post)

I've always been a strong supporter of a disagree button, you can voice your concerns, but it really wasn't just solely my decision.

When we added in the rating system, people complained over positive ratings, people complained over negative ratings. I have been getting constant complaints over the disagree function, from regular users, forum staff members and even members of the Schine team.

I'm tired, tired of dealing with hours of work to fix and reply to problems that have come from disagreeing. Some communities can handle a system such as that, I thought our community would be one of them... but that unfortunately does not seem to be the case. People abuse this system all the time, positive ratings and negative. The negative side, has a greater effect, forcing users away.

A note for the future: I never make decisions that will affect the public (on the forums), by myself. In fact, I'm not really involved with the decision making.

This decision was not made by me, it was made by many people. Forum moderators, Schine staff and most significantly, the response from the public.

Laugh all you want, send as many rainbows as you can, but the community doesn't know what it wants. A few months ago, we had plenty of users wanting the rating system gone, now we have users wanting parts of it back that were shunned in the beginning.

Hit me with your best shot, I've received it all.

See now, they wanted the WHOLE rating system gone (from what I can tell), what we have now without the disagree rating is a system that tries to keep anyone's feelings from getting hurt. Getting your feelings hurt should be expected of the internet, you should be able to handle that if you are on a forum.

pretty much this. I still want the whole damn thing gone. But if you're going to force it down my throat I have no choice but to use it.

What i DON'T want is to be forced into a friendly carebear circle jerk.

Plus, don't try to shrug blame off of yourself when RIGHT HERE you say that it's your decision.

It sounds more like what "the schine team" wants is different from what the community wants. We - or perhaps rather I and a substantial group of other forumers - know what we generally want just fine. Either have the rating system for its intended purpose, or don't have it at all. It's very simple.

Sure, when the rating system was first implemented, I didn't like it very much either, because it was such a sudden change in how the nature of future forum discussions and arguments would unfold, with people now being able to physically measure and judge how another person's post is, rather than simply giving their opinion or rebuttal. But it worked as it was, just fine. It was fair in its execution.

Real problems arise (have now arised) when such a system is intentionally broken for the end mean in mind of "mean-proofing" the forum. But as I've said before, people are going to "be mean" to each other with or without a rating system. There just isn't any point in having it if we're not going to be able to use it effectively.

Oh, and I'm sure the complaints you've supposedly been getting from people about the rating system is mostly due to people like Ceron that just abused it to be jerks. And Ceron was quickly banned. I'm sure most of those complaints you got were also from newcomers to this forum, who hadn't yet gotten acquainted with how things are around here, so of course they're bound to complain.

No, I was wanting to make sure you understood that this decision was chosen because of others reactions, not my own opinion.

I made the decision, but the decision wasn't made without months of feedback and interaction with others. I agree with a lot of points posed, but those in favour of such a system must voice their support (like you are doing now).

It sounds more like what "the schine team" wants is different from what the community wants.
That's not true either, individual members (of Schine) have voiced their concerns/disagreement with the system to me, and I take what they say heavily. Schine has no official involvement with the moderation/administration of this forum. Except in the case of a period such as now, when the forum administrator is no longer (temporarily) able to administer the forums. Which does leave the administration to me, until either I can train administrators or wait for the forum head to return.

The reason why the disagree rating was removed, was mainly because the community had voiced that they didn't want it. Before this thread, it seemed no one either cared about it, or wanted it.

Administration end, people abused the disagree rating far more than any other rating.

If you want a disagree rating, you have to make it worthwhile for us to continue. As of now, it just wasn't worth the effort to continue.

Prove to us that the disagree rating is beneficial to the forums and community, prove that we're wrong and others are wrong in the decision to remove it.

Also, have fun and don't chuck clocks...
