Since we now have an official 3D model exporter for our ships there was always one thing missing. Dave! or at least our player model. Now with some work I've managed to convert the player model and rig it so anyone with blender can pose him and/or create animations. Don't have blender? Don't worry its completely free to download and use.
    This Download Includes:
    • Dave Model.blend file-the one you load up
    • several .obj files (and .mtl files) for the associated models
      • Dave Model.obj, Dave Model.mtl
      • Fabricator.obj, Fabricator.mtl
      • Laser Pistol.obj, Laser Pistol.mtl
    • The associated textures
      • playertex.png, playertex_em.png
      • WeapPistol.png, WeapPistol_em.png
      • accfabricator.png, accfabricator_em.png
    • A bonus .blend file for the lulz
      • Dave Ranger.blend
    A Few Tricks
    • Change to a Custom Skin
      1. Select the Main model
      2. on the side control panel select the texture tab (looks like a red and white checkerboard)
      3. select the texture: kd.002
      4. find the "image" tab below and press the open button (looks like a folder)
      5. find and select the skin file you want and confirm
      6. Tada! you now have a custom skin
      7. Do the same for the Emission map texture (ke.002) to complete the model
    • Import multiple Daves
      1. Open a new project (or just open blender normally)
      2. select File>Append
      3. find and select the Dave Model.blend file
      4. select Scene>Scene
      5. you should be back at the default screen. At the top of the screen find the scene select and use the drop down menu to select: Scene.001
      6. Select the Dave model and the armature and press Ctrl+C to copy
      7. then use the Scene select drop down menu again to go back to your default scene.
      8. Press Ctrl+V to paste the Dave Model as many times as you like.
      9. Enjoy!
