The best bet for a solid legacy server is going to be the version right before power 2.0. Anything that doesn’t work correctly is going to have to be treated as special interest trash and no players would be entitled to any support messing with those features.
    So no missiles, shipyards, turrets...

I'll fire it up and see what else was broken.

Turret and general AI accuracy didn’t didn’t break until after 2.0 was released. They were working well enough before then, minus missiles which were still effective in certain situations and configurations, though definitely diminished in importance as a result.

Shipyards of course had been awful for a long time. The most recent period where they were halfway decent was quickly replaced by them breaking again as the result of anti duping fixes. So if you want the most recent good shipyards your also going to have to deal with widespread duping.

no, they were mostly broken. turrets didnt track, lock ons suffered the old "missile bug" and so on. yes, i am correct.

    VERSION 0.199.654

Just did a SP rollback and test roughly 6-10 mins ago.
Overall, very solid turret performance from my equipment.I was able to put solid DPS on very small, relatively fast moving targets without issue. Missiles are spotty but still providing reliable enough alpha.

    I am interested.
What mass limits would you be wanting? (atm I'm thinking of 150k mass limit but I want more opinions first)
Personally, I would like 250k mass better, but if 150k is all the server can reliably handle then that is definitely enough. I do think that performance is more important in this case since all reasonable expectation of bug fixes would be out the window. Better to decrease the player's potential to fuck up in this case.

    fixed for accuracy
you're completely wrong there by the way, turrets were like the only reliable weapon since the way bigger problem in actual combat was FPS, not AI by a long shot. On servers where accuracy ranges weren't heavily buffed it was, of course, missile turrets *wow* that dominated.

seriously though the way you said that was so outrageously crazy sounding to literally any pvp vet, go sit in the corner and think about what you did. And like, why you did.

Let's have a server which goes all the way back to the versions where realistic humanoid astronaut thing player models existed.

Missiles often missed ships ~5k or smaller, but any full sized warship was not a problem. This to me felt more like a balancing factor than a bug because it made direct fire ideal for small ships and missiles ideal for big ships.

The "missile phasing bug" was what happened when noobs tried putting 1000 missile outputs on a ship thinking they were being clever, and the game slapped their wrist and said "No!". If your kept your outputs in the 100-150 range, you almost never saw problems and could do WAY more damage, even after AMS attrition.

Turret AI was very reliable, but the default accuracy settings were based on default sector sizes. A lot of servers tuned AI accuracy up in the configs when dealing with bigger sectors and longer weapon ranges.

I'd just like to thank everyone for all your feedback again, it's been quite simply amazing from all of you! <3

The server is definitely coming and we are actively working on it, with the confirmed version of v0.199.654 (The latest 2017 version, also known as v0.199.654a on new launcher)

While we don't have an ETA for the server's arrival, we will be working on it as much as possible to get it to you guys as soon as possible.

Keep an eye out for: 'Hyperlight Starmade' ;)

Best of luck and may your server be glorious!

Sorry, I won't login, but that does not really matter. What matters is that servers with other than the latest version are appearing and they might be more successful than those using current version.

Have you decided on a mass limit yet?

In your branding, make sure it’s very clear that it’s a legacy or pre 2.0 server and include detailed instructions on how to retool the client and log in.

Hey blaza another suggestion from me:
Have a standard setup of blueprints uploaded to your server, so people can play straight away. Have them labelled clearly for example:
SERVER Tier 1 Station, 3 lines basic standard adv factories each 100 enh
SERVER Tier 2 Station, 6 lines bsa factories x500 enh
    SERVER Tier 3 (...)
SERVER Starter Miner 200 salv modules
SERVER Small Fighter 50m B-C main
    SERVER Corvette 70m 8k mass C-C main
    SERVER Corvette 80m 12k M-B
    SERVER Cruiser 150m 30k mass B-C, M-B

Replace SERVER with standard or PREFAB or whatevery you like, just make it clear that it's a standard blueprint uploaded and selected from people with a clue about the gameplay. ;)

You don't need big ship blueprints, make sure to have enough blueprints to accomodate for early game playstyle.

IDK, I won't play there, but is it not more natural to let players bring their own BPs to the server (own design or downloaded) and let them fill them up whenever they have the blocks or the money for it? Giving your players their food already bought, cooked, eaten and swallowed might be a little less pleasant than letting them cook it themselves each to his own taste.

    Just my 2 cents...

I really don't understand why you have a problem. And if you come with puke parallelisms I don't want to know it tbh. I didn't say players can't upload their own bps.

I actually really like this, though I'm the only one that can build at last half-decent looking ships so don't expect them to look amazing ;p

I somehow think there are actually 3 main types of ships:

    - Starter utilitarian (0 RP, ~0 aesthetics miners, sometimes with other systems too, but not too many, like a JD for example. Not even their builders/owners like them. You can help people get over these if you give them one filled BP, no need for more if that one can do the job.)

    - Warships (90-100% efficiency as everyone sees it. Different play styles lead to different setups and shapes being the 100% efficiency for different players. Some external aesthetics are a must, as long as they do not contradict the 90-100% efficiency. Every cubic meter counts in size, mass and overall BP price. RP spaces are just as useless as they would be on a today's military U-boat. Exception would be spaced armor, where you can fill the space that needs to be empty with any crap you like, as long as you keep crap's mass low.)

    - Pleasure ships. (100% aesthetics, usually low efficiency, usually plenty of RP. You can call them automated miners or pleasure cruisers or "personal ship" or whatever. The truth is the systems-only starter utilitarian ships mine more blocks per second with lower mass, cheap and without automation as they were and your "personal dreadnought", if you like flying in it and you are proud of its looks, then it's definitely weaker than a warship of the same mass.)

I, personally, would prefer to have the warships and pleasure ships chosen by me, by uploading BPs and filling the BPs of my choice by myself with my own efforts. But, this is me and I am probably mistaking thinking all the other players have the same preferences as me.

PS: The personal choice in what is your 100% efficiency ship, what are your pleasure ships like and where you want your income to come from usually dictates the size and shape of your home-station and of its shipyard (if you like shipyards). Unless the station itself is your most treasured pleasure ship and then other things dictate its shape, size, color etc.

So prefab stations will be "meah, it works for now..." for literally everyone no matter how beautiful and useful they seem to the server owner.
