For a long while now my game has been plagued by a bug that causes the sounds to stutter and repeat themselves for a long while. I have tried repair-downloading the game twice. but the bug won't go away. How can this be fixed?
Good point! What soundcard is everyone using that has this issue. I get it when I try to use my PC with a SoundMax HD soundcard. The only way you can play is with the sound completely disabled.
All the other PCs in the house the sound is fine on with StarMade, but then, none of them have SoundMax HD Audio either.
Well I just tried this and I came up with partial results. The ambient sound of space doesn't glitch out, but the button sounds do.some sound issues are related to a second OpenAL installation, or other game that used OpenAL and did place them in system directory instead of placing them in the game directory.
This way starmade may get connected to those instead of the shipped ones with it, as windows prefers files in system directory over the ones in the game folder.
Try this:
Go to C:\Windows\system32\
and check if OpenAL32.dll and OpenAL64.dll are preset, if they are, rename them to something else like
excluded_OpenAL32.dll and try running starmade.
If all went fine the sound should work as intended.
However some other game may break then, as it has no OpenAL available then, possibly try your games and if they all work fine, remove those files, or take a note:
Sound problems in game installed before "current date" - Rename those files back to original names and try again.
But most likely outdated libraries are not in use anymore.

How did you fiex it?I'm using USB headset and i had this sound problem too (and it's fiexed now).
Even if i don't have a sound card, i still have a sound system within my motherboard. It's not possible to render sound otherwise.
I manage to fix the sound. I did that already, but it was not working, so i don't know, maybe something has changed since the previous time.
So, i'm on Win7 64 bits.
- I force checked the files on Starmade launcher to redownload all, and update.
- When it's done, i go to c:/windows/system32 to rename OpenAL32.dll and OpenAL64.dll into something else, like old_OpenAL32.dll
- I also go to c:/windows/SysWOW64 to do the same thing with the two others OpenAL32.dll and OpenAL64.dll.
Play, enjoy. I had this sound problem for several months, i can't believe it's gone now.
The sound is fixed for the first time in months. I just hope that altering those files won't result in unforeseen consequences.I also go to c:/windows/SysWOW64 to do the same thing with the two others OpenAL32.dll and OpenAL64.dll.
