Will you be redoing planets anytime soon?
We're currently working on planets; they will be completely redesigned. We have quite a unique method.
pause them!DukeofRealms Any chance that we can know if planets are going to be around the same size? Or are they going to get bigger? I only ask cause I'm working on two planet based projects and I'd like to know if I should pause them.
As much as I'd hate to admit it, the suspense is killing me!!
After the lag of the current planets I don't think Schine would make such a move.
I hope the planets won't do the same to the server.^^
We haven't yet reached a stage where we will know, worst case scenario, same or slightly bigger. The main focus of planets is performance improvements, the current planets are (as all of you are aware), frame killers. Getting away from that is our number one priority. Size, design, aesthetics are all nice, but come secondary. I see planets being a "feature" we work systems into, instead of the reverse (how we'd normally go about it). The results of our development here will heavily impact future planet-based mechanics.Any chance that we can know if planets are going to be around the same size?
I would personally take smaller, but more reliably performing planets over big frame killers. We haven't yet reached a stage where we will know, worst case scenario, same or slightly bigger. Size will heavily depend on a number of factors, particularly based on framework that isn't in the game yet, so it's very hard to tell. I'm happy with the progress we've made so far. However, we still do have a lot of work to do. Now that we've made our first reveal, there's a bit more pressure to speed up development. Hopefully, we'll have something more to share very soon.
We are focusing on bugfixing at the moment, cleaning up for our new release cycle. So, while we are currently working on planets, the main development work is going into cleanup at the moment.
It certainly sounds like you're working on it the right way around IMO. If the idea is as innovative as you make it sound, forming the game AROUND the new system rather than trying to force the new system to do this or that will almost certainly yield better results. We haven't yet reached a stage where we will know, worst case scenario, same or slightly bigger. Size really is secondary. If they have the same surface area as a r300 dodecaplanet and the surface is less divided or divided in a more build-friendly way, the improvement in terms of usable area would still be tremendous.Size will heavily depend on a number of factors, particularly based on framework that isn't in the game yet, so it's very hard to tell. I get the idea that a lot of players have spent the past week doing... well... let's just say "stuff" while staring at that gif. Any chance we'll get a glimpse of how these work, or what the main advantage will be if implemented successfully? Now that we've made our first reveal, there's a bit more pressure to speed up development. I'm impatient for the new planets, but this bug-fixing frenzy really needed to happen, so I'm not complaining. We are focusing on bugfixing at the moment, cleaning up for our new release cycle. You have to tilt your head juuuuuust rightDo we have any pictures of what the planet looks like from a distance? I am kind of confused as to what a cube sphere is lol
Not all of it. Just most of it!AH CRAP. I just realized this whole thing started on freaking April Fools.
No wonder this whole post seemed strange. This was all a joke dammit.
Well, last time an april fool's joke featured planets, it actually happened, so....AH CRAP. I just realized this whole thing started on freaking April Fools.

No rush. Seriously; everyone has waited, we can wait.We haven't yet reached a stage where we will know, worst case scenario, same or slightly bigger. So when is this? Is it now in the SoonTM or the Very SoonTM Category.
