So galoska if someone were to make a server just for making 1:1 ships like this, would you bring this there to work on? each person could be their own faction to prevent tampering or something. Just an idea for now but it might be a server I could look into doing in the future. I think having a server like minetrek but not toxic and for starmade could be interesting. Not just for trek ships, maybe even.

    I really like this idea.
If my internet latency wasn't so bad, I'd build my ships there to. This is a really good idea. Especially because people would be able to visit my builds while I'm building them and comment on them. Some times these build are very tedious to get right. and comments from admirers are exactly the kind of encouragement we need to keep going. Please consider hosting a server of this type.

Also on a side note, a couple of sectors designated for battle testing that get reset every day would be a good idea as well.

I agree with all of this. I'd join the server, it makes it easier for me to ask questions of other builders (I need help, that's why my main build hasn't been updated in forever).

i hear that about needing a whole team to build ships and what not. anything over 150 in any direction seems to be horribly complicated. and thats just for none logic ones, and with all the detailing even more *#!&^*^&#!! crazy and still making room for the systems let alone for actual details at any level. id help if i could but some times its just more of a hindrance with some ppl. dont give up and keep it going , even if u have to take a break =)

I may have to figure out funding to make that server happen. It started out just as an idea that I shared in three places (one twitch channel, one Google+ community about starmade, and here) but enough people seem like they would be interested that it might work. I'd need to get a plan together, and I think to make it work for the cheapest I would need to build a server so I can host it myself instead of having to make monthly hosting costs. One good idea from a guy on twitch is to only have one build at a time that everyone works on, other than the updating of the old designs with new features. I think I'd also need to recruit a few core members that each are good at something different - like one that is good at structure, another at ship systems, another that is good at rails and docking, another that is good at interior layouts, one that's good at decorations, etc.

But that all sounds like a new thread needs to be made now. Sorry to hijack this one accidentally.

That all said, I love how now we have dockable thrust. That allows the rotating nacelles to hold thrust. Hopefully you can eventually also have dockable jump drives so we can have a working warp core with an ejection sequence lol.

All amazing ideas. I think it would be sweet if there were specialists. Like, logic systems are a whole art in and of themselves. Same with how to get the most out of ship systems, as Super_Dork_42 was saying. Not feeling like this is being hijacked, this post is here to document the journey of me building this replica.

If slabs had been available when I first started building the ship would probably be closer to a 1:1 ratio. Unfortunately, they were a later release and so the ship is closer to a 2:1 scale.

I have completed most of deck 5 and am looking forward to the upcoming decks. It will start getting into more interesting decks that aren't just full of crew quarters like most of the last two have been. I'll post some updates when I complete the deck.

Okay, not to hijack the thread again but it looks like in the next week or two I'll have the build server going, and for free. A streamer I am a mod for and hang out with a lot on his stream and teamspeak (I'm referred to as a cohost on his stream quite often) was asked to run a server. Apparently the host wanted to be able to have a server his people could be forced to do legit survival on, and so Toasterborst (known here as Weishaupt - and he is up for a spot on the counsel too) talked about a few ideas he and I had about a server, and they agreed.

Here's how the server is going to be - legit survival most of the time for most users. For a few admins, they would of course get the ability of mods to do more, and there would be a once a week event where you can get help on your ships or whatever you're building in a school type setting. In addition, I would be given a locked sector way far away from spawn for building the 1:1 scale models. The limitation would be that of course they would have to fit in the sector, and the building would be limited to one ship at a time (with allowances for updating the older finished ships as new features as quickly as possible and then getting back to the main ship build). Various youtubers/twitch streamers/other community people here could have access to areas of the server to hold class to help their people with things they are trying to make.

No definite time frame but probably within the next week or two, and as much involvement from the community as possible is welcome. To that end I'll be making posts here, the G+ group, and on the subreddit about it, among other places. What I need is a starmade player that is good at planning for groups like that.

do you mean the server I was talking about or the one the ship is on, because the ship isn't on a server and the server I was talking about is still not happening yet.

First off, Nice to see another person trying to do a hybrid RP/useful ship in the star-trek flavor. (assuming they come back half a year later) I'd love to see this thing in-game sometime.

Jeez, you are a wizard! And you really need a better pc.

I don't know if hosting on a different computer and connecting like a server will help but if need be I can help out there!

    Amazing detail so far!
I've actually found that running 2 instances of starmade(on the same PC) really addresses single-player lag. I think it has to do with most OS being retarded about thread priority.
->run launcer 1st time: create dedicated server with 33% of average free RAM as max, min 512
->Run launcher 2nd time, set max memory to 55% of average free RAM, select "multyplayer", manual enter "localhost:4242"
    -->???
    ->profit

It's a shame about how the hitbox on slabs doesn't work right currently and sitting on them puts you at the same height as sitting on the full slab. But they are working on that and slabs sliding past one another, which will be nice.

EDIT - It works now! Time to add thin sliding doors to all the rooms! ^_^
Do you use area triggers or activation gates for the opening?
I'm doing an over-scale('cause starmade is a weird scale) defiant, and I've settled with what I think is a "good" trigger-system:
Trigger controller -> Button -> 5-chain delay blocks -> all delay&button connected to "or" -> "or" connected to "not" -> "not" runs plex doors

you can add a "privacy" or "security lockdown" feature by putting an "and" between the "or" and the "not", and connecting an "activator" in the room(and/or one in your jeffris tubes for a security room lockdown) to that "and" as well.

I found the sheer number of nav-markers for sliding doors (and installation nightmares) to be more than enough reason to avoid "most" rail-doors in my build...but you can run those off the same by having the "or" connect to the "open it" activators and the "not" to the "close it" ones.

interesting to note that I've found 2-spaces-away to be the optimum "trigger point" for auto-doors, both to allow easy pressing of "r" if they ever get stuck, and to give the server enough time to "capture" the logic signal.

that's the question, what server do you mean

And as far as triggering on the door, there's a ship I have a blueprint for from the dock that has a combination of area triggers and user switchable logic so you can create a lockout on the doors too. That way they won't open unless "unlocked"

And speaking of the possible server I was talking about, it seems like it's finally going to happen soon, we just need to figure out how to set it up on the linux server we're running so that it automatically restarts periodically and auto saves (though obviously at different intervals) and then some slight other setup. But the commands, etc. for that are proving hard to find, if anyone knows how to set it up like that let me know.

galoska Any progress? This is such an amazing thing and I hope that this doesn't die :c
I have made a bit of progress. I have started deck 6, put in two huge holodecks, and installed a three way elevator. I've started building the crew quarters on the deck which take up all of the foreward ship on deck 6.

Problem is, I bought a restaurant. And as the chef/gm I have (shockingly) had absolutely no time since April. I'm dying to get back to it, so don't fret, work will continue.

I haven't used any of the area triggers yet. I think there will be some uses but for crew quarters and the escape bays I am just using a manual button.

Is there any way to put up a drawing of the chain of blocks you are talking about? I'm somewhat of a visual person but would love to understand!
