This is SO COOL! Definitely following this. You've put some amazing work into this, can't wait to see the finished project!

Right on, thanks Rixxan! At times it is daunting how much work there is to do on it, but positive feedback keeps me going lol.

Thanks! I'm just starting the 7th season of Voyager and to date there has been no mention of saucer-separation. All research I have done seems to suggest that it was not designed to do that unlike the Enterprise. The yacht, although never used in the show, is a definite for me. I remember being excited about rails when they were first announced because of the abilities it would give for the yacht docking bay as it is located under the belly of the saucer.
Thank you for your interest in this project. I am still so far away from complete, but am getting back into a groove of working away at it.
    More updates to follow!
According to memory alpha, the wiki for star trek that's "official" as far as I know, http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Intrepid_class, saucer sep. isn't mentioned, nor does it make an appearance in any licensed star trek series, but that doesn't mean creative license can't happen. ^_^

Actually I'm glad. I found some blueprints of it online that said it can but honestly I don't like that idea. I'd rather it not be able to separate actually.

Enterprise it made sense: A spherical saucer with a drive section, but voyager with it's elongated and lower profile wouldn't look good if it did separate.

To me the thing that makes it not work is that Voyager was designed to be able to land on a planet. The saucer section was not designed with atmospheric thrusters, so if it separated in atmo it would never get off the planet. I think the conflict between the two is what makes it not make sense to me. And those plans were made by a fan and weren't official. They had been doing a lot of other ships and probably put that in just because so much else had that system. I say definitely leave it out.

As am I, plus, you'd have to decide which section, saucer or drive, is prime. It's an engineer's nightmare. And if it could be sep'ed, the strain on the joints where they were combined and on the ship as a whole if made to sep would be extreme, it just wouldn't work. I say go with the memory alpha link and not have a saucer sep model.

Been working from home lately, which is to say I've been getting a lot done on Voyager :D
Some finished sections on Deck 4:
    -Aft torpedo bay
-escape pods (need more pictures to really get it)
-cargo bay (which will be perfect for the game updates over the next few months)
    -cargo transporter
    -power room

    Screenshot 2015-10-22 15.55.23 copy.jpg
Torpedo Bay, this is the cannon housing. It is full of explosive effects modules. Note the fire wall separating the two bays. Rails are for aesthetics.

    Screenshot 2015-10-22 15.55.32 copy.jpg
These are all connected, and run under deck to the output at the back. Meant to represent racks of torpedoes.

    Screenshot 2015-10-22 16.27.04 copy.jpg
This is the business end of the torpedo bays. The blast doors roll back when firing, again, just aesthetics.

    Screenshot 2015-10-22 16.27.23 copy.jpg
This station rolls back the doors and has the blast effect computer.

    Screenshot 2015-10-26 13.31.20 copy.jpg
Just outside the torpedo bay on both sides there are 2 escape pods. Delivery out of the ship requires the pilot to execute a roll, which is to say it is not as graceful as I envisioned but still does the trick. All pods are delivered from deck level to just above the hull via a rail system. Blast doors cover from the exterior.

    Screenshot 2015-10-28 00.11.49 copy.jpg
The cargo bay. This is divided into three sections, this being the middle one. Each section has racking, and is separated by fire walls. The rails in the ceiling are connected to a moving bed for moving heavy cargo from each bay to the transporter.

    Screenshot 2015-10-28 00.14.16 copy.jpg
This shows the three bays, and the large transporter. This station controls the movement of the moving bed. The one separate from the others is an "emergency stop" button.

    Screenshot 2015-10-28 00.15.02 copy.jpg
The moving bed in motion. The forcefields have to be down of course for it to move freely.

    Screenshot 2015-10-28 00.15.29 copy.jpg
The moving bed right up against the cargo transporter.

    Screenshot 2015-10-28 00.49.22.jpg
Finally, these are the two power rooms. The perspective is from within the dividing fire wall. Each power pack follows the best configuration for a three by three block and all empty spaces are filled with shield rechargers. Power optimization is still something I only loosely understand, but I can happily report that, whereas before this installation the torpedo would eventually drain available power if fired continuously, that is no longer an issue.

Can't wait to see what you do with the transporter bay when the transporter is added!

Very nice! I love the progress. I can't wait to get this thing flying and once the AI crew gets put in the game having a fully manned Voyager to fly around.

Well clearly it'll be a functional room. :P

With the new transporters, this build and others like it become even cooler. I'm already working on a transporter drop pod to allow you to beam to the surface whenever you need to.

Awesome! Just a quick update, did the hull and floor of deck 5 and have already gotten a good jump on it. Not too much to show yet as a large portion of the deck are just quarters, but there are science bays, the main sick bay, and the top story of two two-story holodecks. Once I get into the interesting stuff I'll post pictures. Such a huge undertaking this project, I've already put in 150 hours. That makes me want to cry a bit (that's almost 7 24 hour days)...

Neat. Too bad the new update with the slabs and all that is going to change the way we build ships. :/

OH I know, I've already started doing some minor retrofitting. Part of playing an Alpha game I guess. When I started this we didn't even have rails. I'll just keep chugging along, and might have to go back to update parts of the ship later. I think the biggest drain on my build time is having to deal with the jumpiness of 7 fps on my old Macbook Pro :(!!!!!!!

Jeez, you are a wizard! And you really need a better pc.

I don't know if hosting on a different computer and connecting like a server will help but if need be I can help out there!

    Amazing detail so far!

It's a shame about how the hitbox on slabs doesn't work right currently and sitting on them puts you at the same height as sitting on the full slab. But they are working on that and slabs sliding past one another, which will be nice.

EDIT - It works now! Time to add thin sliding doors to all the rooms! ^_^
