I'm currently updating my fleet submission ships and the ship that's in the same style but bigger, small drone has systems, the big one is only a shell so far, the three intermediate ships (aka the remainder of the fleet submission) is so far untouched.

More or less a random wip thing (some more detailing in the dark grey areas is still missing/has been added since the screenshot was taken)

Some close ups (useful due to LOD block usage)

Jesus, that's impressive. That amount of detail.. that would take me literally months. XD

    I've done a few things.
    A) I finished the exterior of the random unnamed thing, it reached the lovely state of I have no idea of what to do with it's interior, haven't touched it for several days.

The nose probably is the area that changed the most since the last post

I think this last one shows what kind of changes there have been from the version I last shared here, compare this to the lack of detail seen in the pic with the escape pods from the last post
    B) I've changed up the Excubitor superstructure. Again. Right now (almost directly after having done the changes) I like it. I also plan on changing up the main turrets, I want slightly less "ship in space" aesthetic. Don't worry, only slightly, as you'll (hopefully) be able to tell from the screenshots of the superstructure. Because some people liked the old turrets (there aren't new ones yet) I've attached a sment file of the turret.

I like metal grills, as you may be able to tell

By the way, currently the fire control thingies (aka turrets which hit their base from the inside so you don't see them firing because you're not supposed to; all three of them can be seen in this pic) work because the game no longer crashes when that happens (was a bug for a short time years ago) or deals damage to the base even though it's not supposed to (caused me to use 100% of a damage removing effect with old weapons as a workaround). So hey, maybe I'll even do significant progress this year, considering that one of the nice features is no longer broken, so one less reason to have zero motivation.

Some excubitor progress, now with AMS turrets and what is probably best described as the shells of secondary battery turrets, won't get much wider (I'd say maximum of 20 blocks wider, so 10 per side) 2 larger turrets will come up front, 1 in the rear, I'm thinking of maybe adding a drone bay behind the rear turret, current plan is to use the side walls that will inevitably come for shuttle bays as well as the points where the ship is supposed to dock, most likely USD inspired but potentially not compatible due to me not being too fond of limiting access to the ship to a 3x3 door, but that's in the future anyway and I don't play frequently enough to say when that's going to be (when I play I make decent progress though)

drones would probably be close to this in terms of looks

Hey, this still exists. Have a look at the flavour of the month time sink. Idea is about using the central big engines I originally designed for someone else's build. This is obviously a very wip ship (like almost everything in here sadly). If you use the official discord or the CBS discord you may have seen some of this already. Some of these images are a bit outdated.
This view is the most up to date screenshot and shows the entire ship more or less, after this it's mostly details.

    Hello!
Do you mind sharing the dimensions?

One thing I was thinking about is that it would be awesome if those blades were rotating on the XZ axis. In any way, the overall shape would make a neat looking (advanced race) alien ship.

I did the entire "paint job", also started a core room (wip) and continued detailing. Doing the painting also resulted in me going for a far less busy pattern, most visible on the central piece over the engines.
And I just realized that I didn't post an image with the finished engines yet. There won't be more and the detailing on the engines is done, however, not on the surrounding areas. I already made a post in the Engine Porn thread for the finished engines.

Stuff on the core room floor:

    Detailing (1st screenshot slightly outdated):

Yet to be named carrier got some more detailing and a bit more area in need for detailing.

It currently has an amazing AMS battery consisting of 10 turrets.
You also get a slightly odd view at the wip core room, hopefully making it obvious why only it's floor was featured so far.

Odd view or not that core looks positively epic

    Seriously, I'm jealous.

Wow! That level of greeble detail in the sections between the hull is incredible. And the core room really does look amazing.
I really like that level of realistic detailing

    Necromancy!

Now that that's out of the way, here a few words. I have been doing stuff occasionally after the last post in here, namely in December, January, March and today (yay for wip BP saves that include the date I guess). You might be confused, since my last post here is from November, but for some reason I kept images of said "stuff" to discord (if you've seen them it was most likely CBS discord or the official discord).

The yet to be named carrier is now called Galea. Most of the changes fall in the category of "progress". One of two exceptions to that would be a slight alteration to the "paint job", namely a change of the hull number and the addition of a logo on the other side. The other exceptions regards the bridge. The last post only features the bridge armour plate. There was a bridge to go along with it, but thanks to a relatively long discussion (by now months ago) about the bridge and the bridge armour plate with crazyf22raptor I redesigned it significantly and, dare I say it, improved it drastically (who wants their build to be let down by the bridge design of all things after all?).

The other thing I want to show you after this wall of text technically also has to do with the Galea, but not with the Galea itself. I've built fighter drones for it, the Ocis.

1: Slightly outdated (details near the bridge) view of the Galea in it's entirety

2: A view of the engines, with an unusual lighting (I turned the ship 180° around the Z axis) to better show the wip detailing around the engine area on a slightly more outdated version of the ship (under slung turrets, some details and docking area missing)

3: Remember the AMS turrets from last post? They now have bigger friends to go along with them and some detailing

4: The bridge, featured in the only fully up to date screenshot, most of the progress from image 1 would be in the area where the bridge connects to the main engine housing, there's also some improvements to the grey frame structure on the bridge itself

Amazing Ship MeRobo. Question: how do you make all the small details, is it just trial and error, or is there some tips that are useful?

    Thanks.
Trial and error as well a experience play a part, also taking inspiration from other people, especially talking with Plaz (aka CrazyF22Raptor) about how a lot of different system blocks can be used for details. It also helps to look at art/images of (space)ships and if you find something you like, thinking about how you could pull that off within the constraints of StarMade, which ends up leading us full circle back to trial and error.
As an example for previous experience playing a roll, some similarities can be seen in this thing from about a year ago

An even older example would be a certain "scaffolding around a pipe" part (to the right of the walkway) that I started using in October 2017

Thought I should share the Fortis, aka the bombers/strike craft for the Galea, here. It is as tall and wide as the Ocis (the fighters).

Please note that the nice effect with the thruster plumes is thanks to Crusade's mod which makes them longer (and basically give you an effect which used to be possible with vanilla plumes)

I didn't use this thread for quite a while, but there also wasn't much to actually post in here.
Anyway, small unnamed drone which I like to call a boxy fork. It is about the same size as the Ocis and uses a very similar docker arangement
