I have a few ideas, but I doubt any of these will be used.

Ores (example: oranium: all ores end in -ium)
    -white: Yttranium (pronounced Why-train-ee-um)
    -black: Necronium
    -purple: Stuffatanium
    -blue: Isotanium
    -green: Purplexatanium
    -yellow: Margaranium (pronounced Mar-jer-ain-ee-um)
    -orange: Ferratritanium
    -red: Ferratanium
Crystals could be whatever, but the general idea I had is that they'd all end in -ite.

Oooo! Oooo! Do I count as part of the community? :D

Ehh, I'll just toss some ideas out:

Red: Aresate (A reference to the god Ares) or Marizem (Same thing for his Mars equivalent)
Red Alt: Ferrone or Ferrite (A reference to iron, slightly reminiscent of fire as a bonus)

Blue: Hylite or Hydine (A reference to hydration, second includes reference to undine)
Blue alt: Aqaerite, Aqarane or Aurane (References to "aqua" and "rain")

Black: Nihlrune or Nullune (References to "Nihil" and "Null" for nothing, "une/lune" for the moon)
Black alt1: Voisolate or Vaerune (References to "Void", as well as "isolate" or "une" again for moon)
Black alt2: Oblinis or Obal (References to "Oblivion", with sound inspiration from "opal")

Figured it couldn't hurt to mention a few ideas. ;)

I got one named after me! I feel special :D

Here are some of my suggestions, all based on Latin words that I felt were somehow related to the colour:
White - Lucemite ("light" = "lucem")
Black - Obscuromite ("dark" = "obscuro")
Purple - Arcanite (one of the possible translations of "mystery", being "arcanum")
Blue - Caelirium ("sky" = "caelum")
Green - Viridium ("green" = "viridis". I tried "nature", "grass" and "plant" but they were all too obviously translations)
Yellow - Felicitium ("happiness" = "felicitas". Yellow has historical links with wealth, happiness and freedom)
Orange - Delorite ("amusement" = "delectationis". Orange has historical links with amusement, the unconventional and activities/events)
Red - Perinum (so tempted to just go with "ignite", but I resisted :P It's based on "danger" = "periculum")

If there's anyone here that actually knows Latin, I sincerely apologise for any mis-translations. Blame Google Translate, I just know that the rights words from Latin can look really awesome, so I used Latin as a base for all my words :P

Neon i like your first idea, nice and simple, most of the names here are just too complex. We dont really need hard to remember names so simple is better. I dont have any names to share but +1 for Neons.

How about some realistic names, actual metals and crystals:

Ores (Colour is for the metal oxides, which is usually what is mined anyway)
    1. White - Aluminium
    2. Black - Chromite
    3. Purple - Not a lot, maybe a different color is better?
    4. Blue - Copper Sulphate
    5. Green - Nickel
    6. Yellow - Uranium
    7. Orange - Lead
    8. Red - Iron
    Crystals
    1. White - Diamond
    2. Black - Onyx or Obsidian
    3. Purple - Amethyst
    4. Blue - Sapphire
    5. Green - Emerald
    6. Yellow - Sulphur
    7. Orange - Another odd one.
    8. Red - Ruby

    I like the second.

Why should Iron be red and Aluminium be white rather than silver? That makes no sense.
Also I think it would be weird if we make a Hardened Black Hull out of a Cubatom which is made of Aluminium for example.
Blugen, Yelgen, Redgen may sound childish, but are not only easy to remember, but also not create weird things.

BTW: Copper is brown/Orange. Dunno about copper-sulphate.

Iron is often found naturally as iron oxide, which is red. Copper, burning green, is often found in malachite, which is green.

Now putting copper sulphate as an ore.... I'd put it as crystal. Let's be honest, it is a crystal.

I do like the idea of having some actual known minerals (if you see my post you'll know), but I would rather have a combination. Sure, we can be ultra-realistic, but where is the fun in that?
Personally, I'd rather go out collecting infinium than boring lead.
