FINALLY someone who has used latin and has some no joke ideas. Great suggestions. Obscuro is I hide, perhaps you should use the Infinitive!!!I got one named after me! I feel special :D
Here are some of my suggestions, all based on Latin words that I felt were somehow related to the colour:
White - Lucemite ("light" = "lucem")
Black - Obscuromite ("dark" = "obscuro")
Purple - Arcanite (one of the possible translations of "mystery", being "arcanum")
Blue - Caelirium ("sky" = "caelum")
Green - Viridium ("green" = "viridis". I tried "nature", "grass" and "plant" but they were all too obviously translations)
Yellow - Felicitium ("happiness" = "felicitas". Yellow has historical links with wealth, happiness and freedom)
Orange - Delorite ("amusement" = "delectationis". Orange has historical links with amusement, the unconventional and activities/events)
Red - Perinum (so tempted to just go with "ignite", but I resisted :p It's based on "danger" = "periculum")
If there's anyone here that actually knows Latin, I sincerely apologise for any mis-translations. Blame Google Translate, I just know that the rights words from Latin can look really awesome, so I used Latin as a base for all my words :p
Star Trek uses forms of "Neutronium" (Usually Carbon Neutronium) as well, so no.Neutronium Ore/Neutronium
nutronium is a metal from stargate, cool name just wondering if might be copyrighted under the seires

You noob! You can't learn to use 24th century technology? :DOrange- Copper (Used in ship parts, computers, and various non-hull blocks)
Firstly I would like to point out that there is nothing wrong with joke suggestions, they are nice and good to have on a post. I was just making a point that I liked his post, as it used words that derived from latin (as latin Doesn't have colour words only similes e.g like the sky (blue, caelum)). Also none of the words that, in the end shall be used to describe the minerals, shall be easy but you don't have to memorise the names you just have to recognise them, or you could just recognise them by colour, these names are just to get rid of the ones like awsomite and replace them with cool ones for the shops and Inventory. One, what's so wrong with joke suggestions?
And two, aside from Lucemite, Viridium, and Obscuromite/Obscurite/Obscurusite/whatever, people might not remember these. Personally, i'd remember Arcanite because purple is used in magic so much ("arcane" has taken on a connotation of magic), and Caelirium because of a Minecraft mod (The Caelum dimension, an Aether clone which 'died' a while ago; back during 1.2.5 I think), but others might not...
(That said, my suggestions aren't very easy either, for the most part.)
no offence flying, but these minerals have already been discovered, i realise where you are coming from, but its a bit TOO realistic, and even though realism is good in small amounts, we don't want this game to become too realistic, i mean it is a space game where you can build massive ships have dodecahedron planets and anti matter cannons!!!White- Iridium (Rare, used in some high-output parts, but mostly a money ore.)
Black- Tungsten (Used in regular hull, doors, and basic machinery.)
Purple- Manganese (Used in hard hull, can be combined with normal hull to make hard.)
Blue- Zinc (Used in shield blocks and heat-resistant hull (for diving into suns?))
Green- Torbernite (Used in antimatter cannons and power tanks)
Yellow- Uranium (used in power blocks and minelayer blocks)
Orange- Copper (Used in ship parts, computers, and various non-hull blocks)
Red- Ruby (Used in lasers and other beam based weaponry)
Crystallized forms can be sold for extra money, or smelted in a furnace to make two of the regular ores.
(And these are all real ores, so no copyright infringement risks, and you can add more ores later!)
Also just realized- Ores are a rainbow! :D
