    So I was making a supply run for some logic gates and I decided it was time to update my slip ship and give it a real name....

    I've dubbed it, The Locust.

    Nose mounted beacon.. can you spot the camera behind it? ;)

    Logic gates change color when docked. Also they're all linked to a central eject button.

    Features:
    • 4 (Logic gated) Docking Clamps fit for (LWH) 17 x 11 x 9. Perfect for Kabuto Mk2s or Kuwagas.
    • Comes with 2 Kabuto mk2s and 2 Kuwagas out of the box
    • Jump capable (dual-drive)
    • Anti-Gravity Cushion for landing on planets
    • Minor shield, for radiation purposes.
    • An S01 Scanner array
    Specific Stats:
    • Mass(Thrust): w/Drones - 349.5 w/o Drones ~70 (127.9)
    • LWH : 40 x 5 x 7
    • Shields: 1139(16)
    • Power: 50k (15583.8)
    • Stop Effect: 50.4%
    • Jump charge time: ~14 seconds each
    • Scan Range: 4(6)
    • Scan Charge 17 Seconds

    Are anti-missile turrets a pain for your drones? Do these pesky piratical pansy's have mirrors on their ships to reflect your beams? No need to worry, we at Liquid Systems Nano-Yard have the solution to your diminution constitution. Presenting our latest drone and new best seller (among piratical sectors).

    The Ju Ga.

    Beware the Gun moth (Ju Ga)....

    Quad cannons means no missiles to shoot down!

    Ultra-light frame comes with extensive thrust potential.

    Easily Accessible computers on chassis...

    Flush landing gear for planetary excursions and picnics!

    Features;
    • 2 Forward mounted - DP301 Heavy Cannon systems complete with Piercing effect
    • 2 Aft mounted - ER199 Extended Range Sniper Cannon systems complete with Ion effect
    • Low mass high thrust design capable of VTOL planet side or high speed maneuvers and chasing in space.
    • Medium capacity High recharge(relatively) shield for counter Dps operations.
    • Lowest priced heavy drone yet!
    • Completely power stable
    • Fits in the standard dimensions for heavy drones; 17 long x 7 high x 11 wide
    • Flush landing gear for planetary operations.

    Specific stats;
    • Mass(thrust) : 60.1 (49.2)
    • Power(regen) : 50k (5633.7)
    • Shields (regen) : 6028 (143)
    • Piercing cannons deal 3600 to blocks every 15 seconds. Longer reload allows shields to go down.
    • Ion cannons deal 1440 to shields every 3 seconds. Shorter reload allows shields to stay down.
    • Price: 139399 each
    For stats sake what happens will go something like this.. New enemy targeted -> (alpha strike) Ions travel faster and hit first but piercing probably does nothing -> Ions continue to fire 4 more times over 15 seconds dealing 7200 total damage to shields -> (if shields down) piercing hits again and does a substantial chunk of hull damage. Otherwise, rinse and repeat. Multiples of this drone will very quickly take down shields and it combines well with the other drones more spread damage potential.

    In other news I am going to attempt to create pages for all of my finished works here under community content. When I finish I will update the main post with links to downloads so everyone can try them out!

    Among the many things I've done today is come up with a new classification system for my ships and drones. I realized that they were lacking a certain alpha numeric aesthetic that I could paint onto the sides of my larger vessels. So the following is how I'll do it...

    Lets work with an example first so I can explain each part and hopefully make it simple for everyone else to understand my labeling madness...

    LZ1

    The L stands for Low, that doesn't mean it's low mass or anything like that, it means that it is lightly armored. Expect this particular ship to rely less on armor plating and more on shielding for defense.

    Z stands for Destroyer(Zerstorër). Your basic run of the mill whoopin' ___ and takin' names ship. ;)

    The number (1) means it is a Direct combat ship, expect to find this thing getting up close and in your face with some heavy firepower.

    Now what are the options out there you ask? Just look below...

    (First Letter) Low, Medium, or High - These refer to the quality of armor plating on the ship not the size.

    Low quality means it'll be cheap as dirt, mostly basic hull, rarely some standard armor, and NO advanced armor. Virtually all my drones end up in this category.

    Medium quality is almost entirely standard armor on the outside, inside you may find some armor, but it'll probably be basic hull to make it cheaper. Expect only 1 or 2 layers of standard armor on these vessels.

    High quality is either advanced armor, or 3+ layers of standard armor. Since standard armor is fairly cheap, I tend to use the latter. Although in certain decorative areas, I may throw some advanced armor in there to cut down the size and shape. For the most part these are heavily armored warships, very few if any civil vessels will fall into this category.

    (Second Letter) There are lots, this is where the role of the ship enters into play. Expect there to be as many of these as there are stars in the sky because I make up random new stuff all the darn time. For some examples look below...

    Z - Destroyer, light weight warship. Primary Role is either Escort, or Seek and Destroy. All around vessel used for just about everything.
    HZ - Helicopter Destroyer, same as a destroyer but carries a small group of drones. Most if not all my destroyers will be one of these
    F- Frigate, small and agile. Primary role is Defense and/or fleet actions. These guys pack a punch and it's not likely they will be alone. They're fleet oriented so think of them as the dreadnoughts of drones. Also, will be jump capable, always. Some of these (probably most) will carry a single rack of drones, no more than 4 heavies though.
    C - carrier. Need I say more?
    K - Corvette, these are small ships not capable of long range, they use gates and jump ships to move about. Otherwise they're basically frigates and perform much the same functions at a lesser cost.

    Special letters are marked by a "." Drones automatically fall into this category, also drones don't count for the L/M/H above, unless noted they're all L ...cause yeah... who adds armor to a throwaway unit?

    S = fast attack, based on the german class called Schnelleboot, fast boat basically. They can't jump, need a carrier, transport, or tender of some sort to get about, and are, well.. drones...:rolleyes:

    S.a - Assault drone, meant to take on larger ships like frigates or destroyers in groups.
    S.s - Support drone, makes the Assault guys job easier.
    S.z - Weird drones, may be a mix of assault and support or just plain wonky.
    .T - anything with a ".T" means it's a transport or shuttle of some sort. The Locust is one of these since it's role is to scout and carry drones. Most anything not obviously intended to carry drones will use this just so you know it's got a few.

    Numbers - These represent how the ship is supposed to be played combat wise.

    1- Get in their face! you've got guns, armor, and /or loads of shields. You can take a hit and keep on rolling!:eek:
    2- Pew pew (headshot) score! Kill em from a distance, don't get close cause you probably won't live, but you've got guns and range and nothing but time.:cool:
    3- In the words of the great Monty Python, "Run awwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!" seriously, you're not meant to last in combat, so don't.

    Current ships and their new fancy letters I'll be painting.. somewhere.. gotta work it out and the drones won't get any cause they're too small. :(

    Dune => LC2
    Locust => LK.T3
    Kabuto => S.a1
    Kuwaga => S.s2
    Ju Ga => S.z1

    Anywho I did this for two reasons. A) I was bored listening to my professor speak in a terrible accent. B) I feel it adds a bit more character to the ships themselves and gives them a bit more back story. Anyways, enjoy, oh and even though I have yet to update the main post, the 3 heavy drones are available for download now under community content!

    Give em a whirl and feel free to tell me what you think! More stuff is coming too so be on the lookout...

    Update 1: I was not happy with the wing shape of the original Ju Ga (gun moth) so I decided to rework the wings while keeping the systems intact. After a bit of fiddling around I came up with the Ju Ga mk2. It boasts slightly higher shield capacity, recharge, and lower mass along with a cheaper price as well! As a bonus the shield rechargers kinda look like veins going through the wings, which is just super awesome. :D

    Pic..

    Left side is original wing structure, Right side is the new one...

    Stats changed;
    • mass: was 60.1 now 59.0
    • shields: were 6028 now 6077 recharge was (143) now (159)
    • price: was 139399 ea. Now it's only 132474 ea.

    Update: Regarding the Drone Cruiser Destroyer;

    The Outer-most "Shell" is nearly finished on top. Took quite a while to get the angles right, otherwise it'd have been done by now.

    Now includes Fully Functional Automagical Air locks!

    A quick shot of the underbelly. You can see the logic circuit for each airlock as well as the interior of the hangar bay. It'll be open anyways but I'm going to work on some details inside it soon....hopefully...professors are a pain right now so it might be a while.

    Update: Due to an unfortunate, schmelting accident, the above ship has been terminated. In it's place a new Frigate is being made which uses many of the same parts and features as both it, and it's predecessor, in a smaller format.

    2 Reasons for this...
    1. I wasn't liking how bulky it was getting. It didn't feel like a design that I would approve of when finished. Except the air-locks which were templated and saved.
    2. Pirates
    I don't know how they managed to do it, but they got a hold of one of my earlier designs(it was NOT marked to be used by anything either, which is odd). Basically a small thruster equipped super laser... with shields. My extensive station, and drone based defenses were eventually chewed through while I was away at work. I left starmade running figuring, hey, what can happen? I've got 80+ drones and 5 stations in nearby sectors protecting me. So while I was away they ate through one side of the defense net and came to play. Cleaning them up was lots of fun but dealing with the aftermath of rebuilding things was a hassle. Hence I restarted, AGAIN, and now the new Frigate is small, sleek, sexy, and starting to take form. It'll be a few more days but once complete I'll be posting plenty of pics.... and hunting some super laser ship pirates too!

    Super laser ships that are basically weapons, engines and shields. I have a few of those but I've never seen the pirates get a hold of them. I do all my ship building in a protected sector so I never have to worry. My single player world is basically just "creative mode". The sector next to me is my gun range though and I have left my game minimized in that sector and a pirate raid happened. I was only a weapon test bed that got destroyed but it still sucks.

    So after work I came home and worked on the drone destroyer or frigate or w/e I'm building. I can't even tell anymore, it simply defies classical reasoning. Anywho, was working on making some teeny tiny turrets for it and then thought...

    "hmm how small can I make this look good?"

    Long story short, the end result is a new Locust variant!

    The (LZ2) Locust Model E is ready for service!

    This model forgoes drones in favor of several small Hercules class missile turrets. The turrets are designed to provide a sizable alpha output in a small and highly portable package. Additional Shielding brings it in line roughly with the Kabuto, which while light, is more than enough for it's designated long range escort role.

    Extended Armor Plating on the sides offer some additional protection to the crew. Extra thrusters lie underneath...

    Random... what's this blast door for?

    ...oh. That's what it is for.

    All in all, this is a very fast, jump capable ship, with long range staying power. It is designed with a fleet friendly role in mind, assuming your own fleet doesn't destroy it's missiles. In total, including the 8 Herc missiles from the turrets, and the 5 Interceptor Class missiles on the spine of the ship itself, the alpha of this ship is ~20k damage. Total cost for this rig is a very reasonable 450k.

    Note: in the background you can see some shots of the drone destroyer I'm working on...

    Edit: Recalculated damage, was originally doing it just from memory. The new total is actually substantially higher so yeah. x) woops

    The Drone Destroyer is finally nearing completion. I have yet to give it an official name but here are some photos and current stats (subject to minor changes). The only thing remaining is to finish up the logic circuit to launch the drones. Otherwise much of the ship is ready to roll...err fly out.

    Edit: Logic system completed and working!

    @Thalanor, @keptick - This ship is the first I've made to include the drone launch logic circuit I mentioned over in Drone R&D. Hopefully the next line of tests I have setup allow said drones to launch. I'll keep you guys updated here as well as in R&D. :rolleyes:

    Frontal shot of the main cannon arrays

    Top-down view showing the basic layout & form

    Rear underbelly with exposed hangars

    Close-up of engines

    Inside the hangar-

    The rear-most air lock

    A clear shot down the hallway showing airlocks and then core room.

    The unfinished but still functional core room.

    Some things I'm considering but have yet to get around too...
    • hiding the actual thrusters and just showing the engines in the rear. It'd probably look a bit nicer that way, but it's kind of low on the priorities list.
    • Adding details like bunks and what-not in between the air lock sections. It's a minimalist ship meant to be AI controlled, but some maintenance-crew amenities wouldn't hurt.
    • It does have a camera facing the front just behind the beacon. This is because the whole center part of the ship was basically a scaled up Locust and that was already there. :D
    • A rack system for the drones. It's not terribly hard and it's probably my number 2 priority right now. The first is finishing the logic circuit for launch though. By the time someone reads this, both should probably be done. Done! Rack System is implemented and working!

    Features;
    • A jump drive system
    • Reasonably sized hangars fitting a total of 6 heavy drones.
    • Auto-launch for the drones fitted behind the 6 smaller turrets.
    • A total of 8 turrets, 2 main beam weapons, if everything hits the alpha damage is... 138,240. Kinda low, but not terribly bad considering the size of the ship.
    • Total Dps if everything hits is ~15328

    Weapons Breakdown;
    • Large turrets: contain 8 Long Range Punch Through Cannons(name pending)
    • Small turrets: each contain 1 Hercules Class Enhanced Warhead Missile (Miss-Pulse-Exp)
    • Primary Batteries consist of ER Lasers no effect yet, may not get one either

    I know the feeling of a pirate raid...
    Or trading guild ships ramming things off into deep space when they fly through your shipyard - even in protected sectors you aren't safe...
    There needs to be a server setting in the sever configuration to completely turn off NPC's.

    .....

    There is
    Well for me at least, it only seems to stop pirates. Sometimes.

    Anyway, Loadout, the new ship is looking really good!
    You may have gone a little overboard with the hazard stripes, but the shape is awesome - especially the sides at the front.

    I have yet to do a detailed pass over the outside of the ship yet. The hazards are all part of the template I was using, it is kinda overboard. I might just swap out a few dozen or so of them for something else. It'll be a little while though, swamped with work and college for the next few days.

    I know that feeling...
    And while so many awesome competitions are running!

    The worst part is being bored makes you come up with the best designs... Which there isn't time to make.

    I wish I had time to be bored, doesn't seem like I'll be getting time for even that in the next few days. I'll keep writing down notes though, it's the only real way I can save whatever crazy ideas I come up with. I have a lot of those as well, we'll see if they work their way out in the coming weeks. ;)

    So much more planned. aaaagh... if only there was time =3

    Your ship designs are rapidly improving :)
    Just read up on your classification system, inspires me to use today's lecture time to flesh out mine. Lectures are the perfect time to take notes (for starmade purposes) - I know, right? :D

    Thanks, :) I've been slowly trying to improve my designs overall. Keep each new ship held to a higher standard as it were. Templates make the job so much easier too. If you look closely you can pretty much tell where templates were, and were not used. :p

    Best part of online classes, you can play starmade During lectures :D ...although my teacher this semester speak-a vewy wittle engalush. So I nee-ahd to pay vewy klose attenshun to a him. :eek:

    For anyone interested I am currently updating my builds to work with this new weapon ratio system. The following have been done are just being fiddled with to get uploaded....

    • Kuwaga mk3 (skipped mk2 as I was building it while the update was released)
    • Kabuto mk3
    • Ju Ga mk3
    • Cicada (huge update to the model E locust, so much so it got it's own designation!)
    • Drone destroyer's Turrets have been mostly updated, along with quite a bit of it's structure, not done yet but reallllyyyyyy close.
    I am also following suit behind @Thalanor and creating my own template to upload photos and information too. This should add more fluff and also improve loading speed here on the forums! This will take a while though, I do not want to straight up copy Thalanor's template, or just mirror it. That'd be lazy, and we can't accept laziness here at Liquid Systems.

    Thanks to improvements in our terror-dyne weapon systems, nuclear hamster reactors and newly found pizza rocks in a neighboring star system, we at Liquid Systems Nano-Yard are proud to present our latest updates to some of our classics...

    First up is the new LSs.1.03 Kuwaga otherwise known as the Kuwaga mk3.

    The new face of pain.

    Profile Comparison, left is the new, right is the old.

    Another comparison showing a more top-down oriented view. Left old, right new.

    New weapons and arms!

    The light of doooooooom....now with refreshing citrus flavor!

    The newly improved hamster power reactors have been redesigned to provide maximum caffeine output to our furry little energy machines. Thanks to this improvement we have been able to increase the internal space by almost 30%!

    In addition to this new power schematic, we have reorganized and re-weaponized the Kuwaga to provide additional DPS. This owes largely to the new OD cutting lasers we installed in place of it's original scatter lasers. We loved our scatter lasers, but we found that rapidly hitting the same smaller target was difficult and often resulted in unsafe toasting of nearby friendly vessels. After desperately trying to inform our AI pilots that they are not to approach the pretty blue lights we instead swapped them out for a more directed damage approach.

    Aside from these new lasers we have also removed the original interceptor class missile launchers in favor of a pair of Rapid Fire Stop rockets which our team has belligerently coded named 'Pop Rocs'. These new rocket launchers rapidly fire salvos of rockets armed with 80% stop effect warheads designed to deal some supporting damage while also disabling enemy control systems. End result - our new 'Pop Rocs' offer a much improved supportive effect as opposed to the older Ion based Interceptors.

    We believe these changes firmly solidify the support role of our Kuwaga heavy drone. Thus ensuring a place in our family of drones for many eons to come.

    Specific Stats;
    • Mass(Thrust) : 71.5(38.3) 71.8(38.3)
    • Energy(Regen) : 108k(14083.9) 50k(12996.4)
    • Shields(Regen) : 6856(49) 10291(55)
    • Lasers(in /s) : 300 d/s (100% Overdrive)
    • Missiles(in /s) : 90 d/s (80% Stop) -- note the actual damage per hit is 96/missile, while the stop damage should be about ~170 /missile?? With rapid fire it should be enough in groups to stop turrets from rotating and most ships from moving.
    • Cost: 170274 156,749 ea.
    Old stats are from Mk1 Kuwaga and included for comparison.

    Oh god, drones spamming STOP - there can't possibly be a more annoying strategy (for the enemy :P)
    Now that drones don't die immediately from missiles hitting the mothership, I have good reason to start all the updating for the drones too...
    Please test a swarm of these STOP- drones against something with heavy turrets, if the effect really did keep the turrets from being able to reach the drones... then that would be sheer awesome. A rack mix of 50% STOP-support and 50% pure damage drones would probably obliterate just about anything if you have half the cost of your target in drones.
