It's been quiet here lately! Not for a lack of work i assure you! :D We've been pretty busy on the UI stuff, so textures have taken a back seat until it's completed.
I will however address a few bugs i've (and others) spotted whilst playing.
Icons! Those transparent icons are near impossible to see currently. I'll try and edit that in the next few days to remedy the problem. I've spoken with schema previously about the issue and we hope to find a solution with how the icons are baked and handle transparency.
Ores and Crystals! There are some strange looking artefacts on the red ores currently, the (what is meant to be partially transparent) border of the crystal / ore is particularly visible. It looks bad and i'll fix it to be in line with the others.
Ice Crystal! This texture is as old as the realistic packs debut. Thats old. Too old! I'll need to have a look at providing a new texture that fits within the new default texture set.
I also have plans to replace our old-school dynamite style explosives with something a little more... interesting? Thoughts on this please!
OK, as some may of seen in the news post comments i added quick word about the GUI update. I'll paste it below for you all that didn't see.
Little progress report;
Thanks for the patience! We're making progress, however the new UI is taken perhaps longer than we all anticipated.
"Why so?"
We are building this pretty much from the ground up using a new system. The old UI panels were simply PNG image files showing a layout, with text and buttons imposed on top. This caused a few headaches when adding new features... as you can all see it got a little cramped recently.
We are now generating our windows from small sprite sheets that allow us to move windows, resize them indefinitely and all of their contents, as well as dynamically adjusting the size of content (ie tabs, search bars, columns) according to the quantity of them. It acts a little to how your browser responds to scaling it up and down. Future proofing!
Simply quality of life changes are being made across the board, one that i think we're all going to be thankful for is the load times for lists have been sped up (i'm looking at you faction list!). A lot of players ran into slow down issues when accessing the faction list of heavily populated servers. This will hopefully be a thing of the past. Oh, you can also Search through them with a Search bar!
Little things like this are requiring new code and artwork... and there are lots of new little things like this.
So again, thanks for the patience, i hope to be able to release some images of what we're working with in the new week or so. I'll try and keep everyone posted as and when it's relevant.
If you have spotted any graphic errors recently that i can immediately fix within the texture files, do let me know!
Mmm baked icons.
I would like to go on record with the idea of a BACON block. The logic starts off easy with: Everyone loves bacon. The story gets better! Bacon blocks -heal- :3 huh? huuuh? Which means more foodblocks might show up with -dunDUNDUUUN- unrepairable durability. Everytime you use a food block it takes damage until *POOF*. Then you gotta go out and find or make more foodblocks. Meatblocks, veggieblocks, finally a use for static waterblocks, maybe a breadblock of some sort (imlookingatyoupholo).
Ice crystal has been used pretty heavily as external decor on ships. No matter what you do someone is going to complain their ship looks bad because of it :| Besides I always thought they were too bright. So how about the texture makes it look like something in stuck inside the block and gently pulsing? I large groups the should light up nicely and pulse in time with one another. This would look especially eerie on ghost ships.
As for the 'splodie blocks, have the texture look like a C4 pack and the little red light on it flashes randomly. It'll make a room full of them that much more -ohshiiii*- worthy.
Is the Mail Computer thing going to be a thing? Because it sounds like a thing that's the sort of thing I really want to be a thing and not not a thing because things like that thing are really cool.
Maybe (off topic, might not belong here but anyways but; ) the explosives would open a gui upon interaction that lets you set a detonation time, and start the timer with another button? If logic is connected it will make an instant explosion.
