The latest thing our fine and... well used fleet auxiliaries have been working on, is the Frigate Jumpgate, a station that will make use of the new warp gate technology to, as the name suggests, transport around frigates or other smallcraft.

Currently, the only power systems that have been installed are those used to run the holographic destination sign's projectors.

When I build a battlecruiser jumpgate, the display will be the same size.

And no, the Juno/Victoria won't fit through it.

Updated imagery for those who would trawl my humble thread:

I added a display for telling people what the diameter of the destination stargate is. After all, one of the planned features for stargates is that ships too big for the receiver gate will be damaged.

Uh, hey. I'm Wing Commander Vulcan, General Artificial Intelligence, EAMS Vulcan Commanding. Apparently I have to do a presentation about Flotilla 27's auxiliary constructors' current projects.

At the moment, they're working on... hah! A frigate! It's a tiny little system-defence craft. Won't even have FTL!

... what? What do you mean, "you shouldn't speak your mind"? I'm directly interfacing with the comm array. Oh, right. I'm supposed to convince them to want it. I get it now.

Yes, our amazing engineers are working on something truly inspired right now. The Ida class frigate will be intended to act alone or in squadrons to fend off fighters, bombers and other kinds of craft that are likely to be used by pirates! It's like a corvette, but better! Here's a picture. Those four bars around it are there to keep it small enough to fit through a... Frigate Stargate, whatever that is.

Apparently if we're lucky, and the construction workers don't go on strike, we'll get a battle frigate, too! The design name calls it the Dactyl class.

Since my lords and masters feel I have nothing better to do with my runtime (since recallibration of over 50 CIWS turrets, the maintenance and repair of an 800 metre battlecruiser, threat analyses of all known enemy spacecraft classes, and my development program for a way back to Dimensional Spectrum 1, are apparently just useless peripherals here), I'm tasked with bringing you an update on the workers' progress.

As you can see, the Ida has progressed somewhat. Its nacelles and main engine pod have been fitted, along with the radiators and engines. Airlocks have been emplaced in the nacelle sides. The nacelles themselves carry fairly standard open-cycle nuclear engines, while the main pod is fitted with an aerospike fusion torch thruster. Apparently these things are capable of landing, and the torch will assist in that, though I'd be pretty hesitant to try that if I were it's AI. But I'm not, so hooray for small favours.

As for weaponry, currently none has been installed. However, there is a port on the nose for a constant-beam laser, and the design files say it'll have cannons and salvage arrays fitted in the nacelles. Since the Ida carries no turrets, it will be fitted with heat-seeking missiles to help deal with fighters and corvettes. It should probably be made clear that the Ida System Defence frigate is only intended for fighting things smaller than it, but I have specific instructions not to mention that. The Dactyl battlefrigate, with its turrets, will have its mounted weapons more focused towards heavier targets. That includes the replacement of heat-seekers with lock-on missiles.

Enjoy the rest of your day, people who would for some reason watch to this comm channel.

    Wing Commander Vulcan, out.

God damn it. I downloaded the Victoria destroyer. It's slightly larger than the biggest ship I've ever built, which sucks. I warrant it'd win in a fight as well, though one salvo from my ship's main guns drop the Victoria's shields down to about 50% so there's that.

Still, after digging around I've learned not to bother with power generator patterns with big ships. Your 5-6 mil regen dwarfs my 1.5. Seems that big clusters of power generators are more efficient for big ships. Maybe I'll give building a big ship another go.

Yeah, there are line-generators in the engine nacelles, but the rest is acting as filler for much of the engine section's core. There are more line generators than are neccessary to produce 1mil power generation, but that's for redundancy so it doesn't lose a significant amount of power just from one powerful missile hit on a nacelle.

Hullo! It's the Vulcan's Communications Officer here. For some strange reason, Vulcan is refusing to even talk to us about continuing to do these little updates at the moment. Something about devoting her time to more important things like 'fleet defensive and intelligence gathering roles'. Anyway, it's been some time since our last broadcast, and I was order... I thought it was about time we made a new one.

So, what have we got? Well, we finished the frigates. They're pretty hardy, and extremely effective against fighters and corvettes. Which, I suppose, is what we built them for.

    Ida System Defence Frigate:

A second version carries an underside turret and features lock-on missiles like the Dactyl, but the difference in looks was not significant enough to get authorisation for a visual scan of it. This version is known as the Ida Weapons Frigate.

    Dactyl Battle Frigate:

In less military-focused news, we've also begun construction of an Asteroid class vessel, patterned off of a cargo spacecraft we once ran into named Achosyx. Since we couldn't exactly do a visual scan of Achosyx's internals, we''ll kind of be making that up as we go along. So far we have completed the hull of the Utility Section, and are moving on to the Habitation Section, which is surrounded by structural scaffolding.

When complete, we expect our own Achosyx to function as a merchant cruiser. It won't be able to stand up to real warships without an escort, but it will provide a heavy punch to support those escorts with.

We've begun work on the Command Section, since we weren't entirely sure how long the centrifuge needed to be without a solid wall to measure with. Our scans were a bit rough on the forward and backward views, so we're building guidelines (in blue) that we will use to make a neater hull with later. However, it should give a good idea of the rough shape of the vessel before it even nears completion.

Is it bad that, when I saw the first battle cruiser, I thought "Of course... Canada... we're screwed!"

    Wing Commander Vulcan here.

Having completed my major tasks for today, and my ongoing projects stalled, I've agreed to once again do one of these weird little presentations. I literally have nothing better to do, which is just sad.

This image was taken some time ago, but I'm told it's photogenic so I should show you it anyway.

How quaint. They even kept the adverts on the cargo containers.

Here's a much more recent picture, which is supposed to give an idea of how large the engine section will be when complete. The engine itself will be... will... oh, this is just hilarious! An ORION drive! Apparently they decided they didn't want more hydrogen fuel on board than neccesary, so they're gonna load it up with H-bombs instead. Because that's so much safer. Hah.

I'd better calm down before I start accidentally firing weapons.

Well. This took me all of five seconds to create, compile and load into the transmission buffer. Now I have to work out what I'll do for the next three hours.

    Vulcan here.

There is a long and, I'm certain, fascinating explanation for why there has been no updates from Flotilla 27 for over a year. But I'm not here to explain that. Instead, I'm here to show you what we've got: the CargoStar heavy lift SSTO and the most recent image of the Achosyx for your perusal.

    Goddard Industries Cargostar

Capable of lifting 30 tons to orbit, and with significant space on board for passengers of a wide range of species, the CargoStar is an excellent workhorse for a modern corporation's spacelift needs. Its robust, tried-and-tested design with rugged landing gear makes it highly suitable even for world with little infrastructure for handling spaceplanes.

    EACS Achosyx

As you can see, the engine section is almost completed, the weapons have been replaced with more recently developed versions, and the cargo containers are all in place. A little more outside detailing, and the construction of the internals, should leave this hulking freighter ready for work. Coming soon to a star system near you.

Also shown is a size comparison with the Canada class command cruiser.
