After having a play with the Dev build last night I love the build tools!
I couldn't work out the new rails, so didn't bother. Maybe try tonight.

When visiting the Traders home base I noticed that the Outcasts are still dropping their containers and turrets when making trade deliveries.
I think this wouldn't be all that bad if you could capture and own them or even access the storage, but they are faction locked which makes them useless.

Please dont make it a shipyard only option.

Also as mentioned by Lone_Puppy above, the NPC factions ships are faction locked while in overheat, is it possible to fix that state so they are salvageable? Currently players dont bother with fighting them as there is no reward for the effort.
My server we just completely deleted the option due to noone bothering to fight them and their hogging all the server RAM

I would be able to use this to paint the hull of my ship a different color very easily. Unfortunately this is just as limited as the replace function. Each individual hull shape (wedge, tetra, slab, etc.) is treated as a different type of block. If this remains the case, then using the replace function in conjunction with a large build area is still the best way to change the color of your ships hull. Also the fill tool doesn't seam to work with symmetry. So any fills you do on one side will not be done on the mirror side.

I hope these can get fixed soon so that the game can get the power update started. I can't wait.
Yeah, the paint thing you're talking about is just because it's not implemented yet, this is after all the 1st public dev build and not a pre-release candidate.

Not sure about symmetry yet though, could make it a simple toggle to enable/disable it from working with the fill tool. But how exactly would it work?
    1. It replaces/puts blocks down in a fill manner, then just copies those over the symmetry plane without caring?
    2. It puts down multiple fill positions with a max of 8 if you use all 3 symmetry planes, and then it just fills simultaneously from those positions.

I assume you meant 2. Only worry I have with that is that it could be a bit performance heavy unless you wouldn't mind placing up to 8 times less block/second (with 3 plane symmetry).

Personally, I'd be happy with either one. But IDK about Alter.

I wasn't lying when I said it was awesome. I was just stating the points where I expected one thing and then got another. Personally I would prefer if paint would work with symmetry but now that I'm not expecting it, I could go either way. But my feelings about it are a moot point. What ever the :schema: wishes is what will be.

Lancake please don't change the way wedges are placed because some other game does it. In the games mentioned the scale of building is inherently smaller compared to StarMade. If I had to worry about the orientation of the wedges changing if I simply moved the position of the camera I would develop stage 21 cancer immediately. Do not change the fundamentals of the build mode in this game, it is much better than the others when it comes to block placement.

I like the way the camera build system we have works more than any other building game I have played extensively which includes From The Depths, Avorion, Robocraft, and Space Engineers. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I also don't see why there has to be a nerf to where you can use advanced build features. Normally, if you go into a battle and decided to edit your ship even a little you die very quickly. You could just make it so that systems don't supply any of their stats until you've rebooted the damaged ship to prevent PVP exploiting. This is basically already in the game and I don't see why it needs so much of a rework as people are assuming.

I am against this sort off method of orientation changing, which is why I was asking Thadius Faran how it would work properly with the brush size mechanic we have right now.

I'm open to all suggestions, which is why I require more details if I don't see it work personally. Throwing away an idea just because I don't fully comprehend it is not something I do. So far I'm not convinced that this orientation selection method is better in any way.

I was just thinking it'd be nice to have it as an optional mode and you are right, builds in Blockade Runner were smaller than StarMade ones but it worked well for those smaller builds.

Now put 20 ams turrets on your shipyard's built space ship and tell me how fun this is.
You say that as if advanced build mode/creative mode will never have a method of placing turrets without flying them automatically. AFAIK it's an issue that Schine's aware of.
