      Another issue with this idea is that Starmade doesn't really keep track of a ships in/outside.

      This. Partly because I'm not a great shot, but missile/beam is the most reliable way of hitting something small. This is especially so when you factor in the best place for a bigger ship to be is at a distance, where the agility difference doesn't count for as much.

      I'm not really for consumables in general but food supply, if it's implemented well, I think would work. There would have to be a pretty large degree of automation to the process of distributing the food between your faction NPCs though.

      From my experience you need quite a lot of drones to make a difference in giant ship battles. Enough to at least make the server not melting a concern.

      I like this idea. Maybe an adjustment would be the longer a ship is overheating the more likely it is you'll just end up with scrap, encouraging the player to recover the vessel as soon as possible.
