Quite right. You have an "assembler" tool that doesn't appear in the inventory. I'd like to see it in my avatar's hand with a small screen displaying the selected block and its name.
What we need is not to change this, but to give each resource more uniqueness and flavor, such as "Black crystals are really rare except around red stars, but you need them to make advanced armor," or "White ore is really common and used in almost all machinery and computers."
Nope.
Overall this isn't a bad thread. However, I'm not a huge fan of things that are more mechanic-driven than reason-driven as these shield ideas seem to be. Drawing on Star Trek for inspiration might not be a bad idea since it's one of the more well-thought-out sic-fi universes.
Here's what...
No, that wouldn't be OP. You still have to keep the reticle on target long enough to get a lock. Selecting a target is just a matter of telling the computer what you want to lock onto, so it doesn't matter all that much how you select a target.
All you need is a paint gun tool. Right-click on it to open a menu and set the color, and then left-click to paint. It could consume paint cans from your inventory. Starmade keeps all materials and paints in handy, ready-to-use capsules so I don't think there's any need to involve a factory just...
I doubt it's going to be like that, as cool as it would be. Mentioning joysticks reminded me of an old topic though. Right now joysticks are inferior for control because you can't hit anything you shoot at. I need to go look for that thread so I don't have to write a new one...
I believe LOD was mentioned in the context of planet optimization. I may have to look it up later on YouTube, but I think the people claiming "high poly blocks confirmed!" Are in error. He talked about how high-poly objects are often treated this way and turned into things with fewer vertices...
Yeah, some people's computers would handle them better. My own machine is barely above the "toaster" rank as today's computers go. It's entirely possible Schema's optimizations will make a large dodecahedron work even on a toaster, however. If that's the case, who needs oreos?! Let's wait and...
My graphics are terrible. The trouble is even if I reduce my render distance to 100 sometimes I get lagged out by stuff other than blocks, including the infamous logic pipes. We already have an option to disable beams. I think there should be one for pipes as well as they're just as much of a...
Schema mentioned LOD (level of detail) and planet optimizations in the Q&A tonight. Level of detail means you'll see groups of blocks bunched into larger, easier-to-render blocks farther away. It reduced the number of vertices (and thus GPU load (fps lag)) at the expense of not seeing a lot of...
It sounded from the stream like Schema didn't care for the idea of non-polyhedron planets. Maybe he'll find a way to smooth out the edges a bit more. I know there are some rendering tricks he might be able to use to make overlapping blocks look like a smooth seam instead of something jagged.
You may have a point. I wouldn't necessarily be against this type of implementation. I just don't like oceans being mandatory.
There's a game that did it, but their planets are real-life sized. A bent cube is not a good solution for Starmade. Schema tried it once and had all kinds of goofy...
