If this were to be a thing, I think it would have to have low health and also scale with system HP.
That way it wasn't 100% effective until the block got shot. This gives it a downside compared to building out your whole system.
This is actually much harder then it sounds, and the results aren't acutally as good as you want. Simulating should be fun once you find a good balance. Then later on if we start getting larger servers that are sharded based on sector it should be fine.
Nah you just save the same hits. I think systems, and armor hp really buy you something here. I think with a bit of finese you could simulate hits to systems vs armor based on those numbers and how much damage each hit did. Then the only numbers you really care about are systems hp, armor hp...
That solution sounds good but I'd like to propose some refinements. Specifically how damage is caculated, and shown. You should be able to save most or all hits to the ship. Then replay them, but I think that might lag everything as a player gets close. So I would propose you remember the type...
Most of the offline/passive fights are intended to be done in a way that won't affect player bound sectors.
As for big factions massing tons of drones. I'm sure someone will do it. It would then be time for alliances and trading. No one likes a bully, but a fun fight is some thing of a dream...
Also you should not be able use consumables from a personal cargo area.
I also like the idea of consumable computers for ships with different effects. Like maybe double damage for so many shots. Let it be a player only item as well. AI can't use them.
