      I got a solution (hack). Move the rod-picture to the far left of your texture-tile. Then you can make them 1m above ground or below the ceiling, but only as a 2D, not crossed 2D (thus above ground or below ceiling -> you will be unable to see it from the other direction).

      They are no blocks but using same thing as implemented for grass patches. I think a sprite-plane sticking to the ground (in default orientation) would be neat. Maybe bump mapping could do the trick to let it appear 3D. Or just make a texture that makes it look sunken into the wall/floor/ceiling...
