Each fleet should have a designated Admiral (or whatever your faction calls it, it should definitely be customizable) who is the only person that can issue orders to that fleet. Someone who is not the Admiral can still fly a ship in the fleet, but they still get the same orders AI/NPC-flown...

Ehhhh.... I think a little bit of randomness to the outcome of a battle could be a good thing, but that seems a little overboard.

I'm very impressed by this system. Some of it is common sense or has been discussed before, but I wasn't expecting the unloaded fleet battles- I'm willing to accept the compromises the necessary abstraction will bring, because being able to send off a fleet to do your bidding and not even...

      Criss' Thread

I'm a little disappointed by the design choices for the trading guild, particularly the color scheme.... because that's what I use for my ships, now I'm going to have to change things up! Thanks a lot!

Recognized A Concept for Space Engineers-like planets

They're sort of instanced. Schema's primary reasoning against instancing planets was to avoid loading screens at all cost- something that I don't think my implementation would require. If it can't be done without a loading screen, then it would be inferior to the current plate planets for...

Recognized A Concept for Space Engineers-like planets

:D Exactly. The only thing Space Engineers does better than Starmade in my opinion is the planets. Obviously, under the hood, they will have to be quite different, but from a players perspective, a similar experience would be ideal for StarMade.

Ok! Here we go: A Concept for Space Engineers-like planets Again, sorry for hijacking your thread Daniel L., now back to your regularly scheduled discussion.

Recognized A Concept for Space Engineers-like planets

I know Schema has considered making planets like Space Engineers, after seeing them added into that game, and I'm sure I'm not the first person to suggest or advocate for something like this, but... I don't think the horse has been quite beaten enough yet. Full disclaimer: I don't know if...

Heh ok. I don't know if my solution is elegant or overcomplicated then... probably the latter. I'm sure sharper minds than mine will be able to come up with a cleaner means to the same end.

I illustrated my concept to hopefully make it clearer. I know Space Engineers accomplishes pretty much the same thing, although I don't know exactly how similar since I only play StarMade. What I do know is that it would be an immense amount of work for Schema, but you know if it works as...

I think jumping over a 90 degree edge would only be slightly more disorienting than jumping over the current 135 degree or whatever edge. It's already pretty nuts. :p As for the instanced planets, (good to know that's what that concept is called) the way I envision it, you'd still be able to...

If I was in charge we'd have planets shaped like cubes. I'm aware of the criticism towards them, but in my opinion, they're perfect. Starmade is a game made entirely of cubes, planets being large cubes themselves just makes sense. Yes this planet here looks terrible. But you have to admit...

Shield Emitter Blocks: The solution for "Gigantism" and fighters.

So by shooting out 3 blocks, a ship of any size can take out 50% of your shields? I still don't feel that this is fair. And what if a ship has to expose its emitter in order to bring its guns to bear on the enemy? You can design your ship so the emitter is on the opposite side of your guns...

Read by Council Ship Primary & Secondary Colours

This is a pretty genius idea. It reminds me of the company colors in OpenTTD- the game sprites are drawn with a specific marker color that the game replaces with your chosen company color on the fly.

Shield Emitter Blocks: The solution for "Gigantism" and fighters.

I really don't see how this helps. I've thought more about it, and I've realized there's a bigger problem with your concept. All it does is essentially nullify shields. Big ships will easily be able to take out each others emitters, and small ships that shouldn't logically be able to affect a...

Shield Emitter Blocks: The solution for "Gigantism" and fighters.

This idea makes sense from a 'realistic' point of view, shield emitters are a pretty common theme in Science Fiction. It doesn't fit in at all with the rest of the shipbuilding mechanics though. StarMade lets you build your hull in whatever shape you can imagine, then fill it in with generic...

      Looking for feedback

If the stats seem low, then that's probably because the interior hasn't been completely filled yet. I wasn't sure if I had enough shields, (good to know that I don't) so I just left the space empty and focused on aesthetics. I'm not relying on armor with this ship, it's just Standard Armor...

Starmade Q&A: Stuff confirmed so far

Dissapointing, but "maybe later" is better than "no". Now that is very interesting. Awesome. YES. This will be epic. Just imagine, an alarm could sound, and a big "WARNING" could pop up, and the screen could start going to static or something... That might be a bit overboard, but some...

I used Inkscape, vector graphics are perfect for this sort of thing. Although, it'd be totally possible to use a bitmap editor for my logo in particular, since it's just a standard Unicode flag symbol.
