      Yah it makes quite a difference considering how heavy the chamber blocks are. I haven't really had an issue with the block count as such, it's the extra mass that's the issue. Perhaps this could be mitigated a little by reducing their mass?

      Damn! The numbers changed and I hadn't noticed... when did that happen? Same 19, 199, 1999, 19999 etc sweet spot though the chamber block count has dropped, looks like it's halved compared to my old chart. Guess I should go and check my early v2 designs... moving goal posts. /grumble/sigh

      8x modules in a double waffle is the way to go... for the glare just make sure you're looking through a transparent block, crystal or glass, and the bloom goes away, (you may need an air gap between the camera and the crystal.)

      For your NPC factions do you have server.cfg NPC_FACTION_SPAWN_LIMIT = 0 ? From what I've been told if you have NPC factions they will eventually overwhelm things. Never tested myself mind you. You'll still get pirate and trader ships with that setting off, just no 'faction' ones taking over...

Last time I checked if you exited a ship it's chambers stayed active but I just tried that with a perma cloak and it turns off when you exit the core now, that's new afaik as last time I tried that...
