When I read the first part of the topic, I thought that you'd start talking about actual new types of systems and mechanics... Only to find that you're just talking about neat new weapons and enhancers for existing systems. The explosive reactor idea isn't bad, and most of the other stuff is...
...Or, Faction Permission Modules could just become editable by people with permission to edit them, as they're supposed to be... There should be checkboxes for Public, Rank I, Rank II, Rank III, Rank IV, Faction Leader, and Specific Person(s).
I know it's a bit off-topic, but I'd like to see Hardened Hull stop looking like bathroom tile. I know Kupu wants to keep textures consistent, but somehow I doubt that anyone really wants Hardened Hull to look this way... :\
Actually, mixing purple and ice planets would look fine... you could even have tendrils covered in ice on the borders if you wanted. Things like Ice and Lava, or Purple and Desert, etc. shouldn't mix though; yeah. :P
That kind of system could be abused to hell... Someone could spam Polygon Subdivide, or just load in tons of uber-detailed models until everyone's graphics cards crash. :p
Shops still need wedges, just like Isanth IVs... They should also have larger inaccessible areas to make them look more like trading stations rather than space sticks. There also need to be a lot less of 'em.
It isn't canon, but there are a few things (The Deferi, some of the Fluidic Space stuff, the new Earth Spacedock interior, the details about the Iconians and Elachi (Shroomies), and perhaps the Romulan Republic) that should be... However there's so much stupid writing and so many things that...
I didn't say to remove atmospheres, I said to remove the coins that are rendered inside of them, which were originally "markers" for the planet discs so you didn't accidentally try to land and slam into the bottom part of the disc.

I know that it's off-topic, but Star heat should probably transform ship blocks into lava rather than just destroy them. And it should quickly drain shields (By a flat %-shields amount) but not ignore them when calculating damage. :P
I have never tested that, but assuming atmosphere models disappear the way they should, it may become possible to eliminate the stupid amount of clustered planets that a system generates... Then just hurl the leftover pieces out of the system with a giant repulsor beam.
Ah... So, will beams...
The planets don't need to render immersion-breaking, ugly discs from afar.
Atmosphere spheres should no longer be transparent from far away since you don't have to see exactly what your approach angle is just to land on a planet (which was stupid; thank goodness we have these planets now, though...
